Big Day Out 2013 lineup

After months of forum bickering, a few dodgy leaks and tonight’s self-confirmation from Red Hot Chili Peppers the Big Day Out 2013 lineup has officialy landed.

Next January Australia’s largest traveling festival will return with RHCP and The Killers leading a huge lineup of 37 artists that includes the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Band Of Horses, Animal Collective and the first ever Australian performances from Alabama Shakes, Death Grips and Gary Clark Jr.

Heading up the doof in the Boiler Room will be Bloody Beetroots with the world premiere of their new live show, Crystal Castles, Kaskade and Pretty Lights.

Speaking to FL about next year’s event festival founder Ken West confirmed that the Chili Peppers will be performing exclusive at the BDO, and while some artists will perform sideshows they will be on a much “more intimate” scale so the team can put all its energy into “a ground-up rebuild on the total Big Day Out experience”. This means more focus on the overall atmosphere and breaking down the walls of the Lily Pad so it becomes a roving party.

Head here for more details on Big Day Out 2013 and a candid interview with Ken West in which he elaborates on just what this “rebuild” means for the festival faithful, what we can expect from The Killers and why the festival won’t be returning to New Zealand.

Weren't The Greenhornes set to do festival, sideshows and support Black Keys until they got "exhausted"?

That sounds right. Their Northcote Social Club sideshow was one of the best shows I went to last year.

I really wish they'd bring back the Riverstage sideshow where they pool a few acts together. Both the Prodigy/Simian Mobile Disco/Quan and Lily Allen/Dizzee Rascal/Calvin Harris ones I went to were great.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs supported by Crystal Castles and Childish Gambino would be too dope.

Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts KASKADE will now only be performing at the Sydney and Gold Coast 2013 BIG DAY OUT Festivals.

BIG DAY OUT are proud to announce the addition of platinum-selling artist, visionary producer, film composer and technologist BT, who brings his Laptop Symphony show to the Boiler Room. An internationally-renowned recording artist himself, he is trusted by superstars such as Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Britney Spears, Tori Amos and Seal to produce modernist and memorable hits, with a bleeding-edge electronic flair. He has composed unforgettable scores for films The Fast and the Furious, Go, Stealth and Oscar-award winning Monster. With his latest two-hour, double-disk opus, These Hopeful Machines, BT definitively weaves both the technical prowess and compositional mastery that reminds us all why he's the composer that all other composers and producers study.
