Bloc Party Splendour warm upshow

Bloc Party’s headline set on the Saturday night at Splendour was billed as their ‘only Australian show’, so it looks as though Brisbane has ceded and branched on its own just to score a special gig. The recently reunited English indie stars will be playing a warm up gig at the Zoo in Brisbane with support from their mates in Last Dinosaurs.

Bloc Party are also a much loved member of the Splendour family having played at the festival in 2005, 2007 and 2009. They’ve also been represented at the festival in the last two years with guitarist Russell Lissack joining the lineup of Ash at the festival in 2010 and frontman Kele playing a set last year.

Tickets for the warm up show go on sale at 9am next Tuesday 17th July via the Secret Sounds and Bloc Party mailing lists.

It says warm up shows on the secrets sound page, I am thinking more. Cmmmmmon Melbourne

Bloc Party was the only real draw card for me at Splendour this year, except Jack White but he is doing sideshows, sure there are a couple of good smaller bands but nowhere near the quality of 09,10. Now with Bloc party doing a warm up gig Splendour has fuck all. Although a show at the Zoo alone will sell out in 1.5 seconds so my entire argument is flawed. Regardless I cant go to Splendour this year

Brisbane?
Pity I'll be in Sydney that weekend for a Splendour sideshow... Doh!

Although this show will be out of this world amazing I'm not too bummed that I can't try for tickets. Considering they'll inevitably have to do a proper headlining run next year to support the new album (which comes out a month AFTER Splendour), and the fact that this show will sell out in about 4 seconds like The Pixies' one in 2010 did, so I probably wouldn't have got tickets anyways...

They'll probably play the Riverstage like last time in Brisbane so it'll be another magical evening.

They did do sideshows though in Sydney and Melbourne, and in the end isn't that all that matters?

So I'm assuming no one else from FL managed to get to this? Was a pretty good show but I enjoyed them more at Splendour in 2009. One More Chance and Banquet were butchered but they did look pretty tired so maybe that's why. New stuff sounded great, gunna be a lot heavier than Intimacy. The inclusion of This Is Not A Competition was a massive wtf moment for the crowd.

So He Begins To Lie
Trojan Horse
Hunting for Witches
Positive Tension
Kettling
Real Talk
Song for Clay (Disappear Here)
Banquet
Team A
One More Chance
The Prayer
This Modern Love
Flux

Encore:
Octopus
This Is Not a Competition
Ares
Helicopter
