Falls festival 2012 lineupannounced on Tuesday

LOOKING FOR THE FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT? CHECK IT OUT HERE

In early June the Falls festival announced that the 2012 lineup would be revealed as “our acts as they’re confirmed this year – so it could be any time”, but that plan now appears to have changed with triple j revealing that the festival is set to release the lineup on Tuesday morning (3rd July).

The Falls festival ticket ballot is now open so if you’re hoping to be spending your New Year’s Eve in Lorne or Marion Bay with a few thousand of your closest mates it’s time to put your name in the ticket barrel.

If you’re already a Falls subscriber it doesn’t mean that you’re automatically in the ballot – you need to re-enter the ballot each year. The ballot will only be open for a few weeks and if you’re among the lucky punters whose names get pulled out you’ll be able to buy up to four tickets for the festivities before they go on general sale.

Last year’s bill featured the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Fleet Foxes, Metronomy, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Jim Jones Revue, Beirut, Aloe Blacc, Dan Deacon, J Mascis, The Kooks and Young MC.

I'm hoping Tegan & Sara get announced. Their new album should be released soonish and they haven't done Falls for a couple of years.

Someone should do a Falls 'Place Your Bets' :)

I mean, I have MS Paint, too; but I don't really brag about it like that picture does.

That's one of the worst fake posters I've seen. Just terrible.

"About six years ago we got together to try and decide who we really wanted," says organiser of the Falls Festival, Simon Daly, speaking to TheVine this afternoon. "And this year we got them. It's something really fantastic."

Kinda missed some key news there:

Tomorrow morning the Falls Festival will announce the first round of artists for the twenty-year anniversary event in Lorne (its Tasmanian counterpart will be celebrating its tenth anniversary). Organisers will once again release names in drip-feed fashion, a practise that began in earnest last year with regular announcements of just seven or so acts, rather than a long list spanning the entire event. The idea, says Daly, allows for smaller artists to be bundled with some of the bigger name bands, effectively drawing attention to the whole line-up rather than one or two headliners. But there's another reason too.

"We announce them as we book them," says Daly. At the moment there's only about a quarter of the eventual 80 acts currently locked in, claims the promoter. Beyond the booking procedure making sure that the bands on the line-up are both relevant and "dynamic"

Looks like we're only getting a few names tomorrow :(

Lame. Drip feeds are the worst.

They always said they were going to drip feed anyway.

Sounds like we are getting around 20 acts tomorrow anyway which is more than i was expecting.

From Falls Facebook: Who's ready to hear a handful of our anniversary line-up tomorrow morning?

1) Only promising a "handful" of acts
2) Every year is an "anniversary line-up"

Isn't it their 20th anniversary for Lorne and 10th for Marion Bay?

Probably. I think I read in an interview somewhere that they said they were planning on touring here twice for their latest album.
