Harvest sideshows update: Beckand Mondo Cane confirmed

Following on from yesterday’s announcement of the 2012 Harvest Festival lineup – which features the likes of Beck, Sigur Ros and Mondo Cane – talk has quickly turned to which of the headliners will be performing sideshows, and luckily we have the ever vocal AJ Maddah on hand to answer (most of) our queries.

Last year fourteen acts – including all the headliners – performed additional shows. And while the great majority of these were weighted to the East Coast, Perth and Adelaide did receive visits from Portishead, Holy Fuck, The Flaming Lips, The National and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Since the original announcement Maddah has confirmed via twitter that in 2012 “Most sideshows will be in Adelaide & Perth. 2 or 3 in other cities.”

Since this initial remark Maddah has dished more details confirming that Beck will do “one sideshow. Not sure where yet” and that Mike Patton’s Mondo Cane will perform their two sideshows in “Adelaide and Perth”. He has also said that there are still multiple lineup announcements to come and, for those of you who noted the distinct absence of any Aussie names on the lineup, all “Aus bands are on later announcements.”

Confirmed Harvest Festival sideshows:

Mondo Cane – Adelaide and Perth
Beck– one show only , probably in Adelaide

FasterLouder will keep you up-to-date with more Harvest sideshow info as it comes to hand.

Brisbane will get nothing, that's no surprise by now.
Might travel for Santigold sidey, or wait in hope that the 2nd announcement is full of goodness.

I really want to travel for a Sigur Ros sidey, as long as I don't die from hyperejaculation at Brissy Harvest.

With the limited number of dates they said they were doing this world tour i can't see them doing any sideshows in Aus. I am contemplating heading to singapore if i can get flights at a good price

neuroticwill

neuroticwill said on the 15th Jun, 2012

Enough of that talk.
They have 5 days off between melbourne and sydney. Almost all of their US or Europe dates are consecutive, or with one day off.

They must do sideshows. I require my hyperejaculation.

@iamnotshouting
@fletchdiamantis only sideshows would be Adelaide and Perth.

Mondo Cane finally coming to Adelaide!

*adjusts tie*

Yes, I do believe I will be there.

What a year 2012 is shaping up for for Mike Patton fans, Mondo Cane coming out again for a full national tour this time, the new Moonchild album, the Laborintus II album with Luciano Berio next month and the new Tomahawk album in a few months time.

Very nice.

Brisbane got a Bright Eyes sideshow last year with Darren Hanlon supporting at the HiFi which was such an awesome gig. Hoping we get 1 or 2 sideshows again next year.

billo

billo said on the 18th Jun, 2012

just in case your new to this live music thing it is also great to catch bands outside of a festival. better sound, longer setlists and no chance of clashes

Fake Plastic Android

Fake Plastic Android said on the 18th Jun, 2012

What happens if the sideshows are on the same night?

billo

billo said on the 18th Jun, 2012

well then there is a good chance of a clash and that last part of my sentence is not correct, which i doubt would happen too often with harvest fest sideshows this year. but in that instance i would go to the sideshow of the band i am most interested in seeing and then hope to catch the other at the festival.

point i was trying to get across is it is good to see certain bands out side of a festival for numerous reasons, and after the organisational problems of last years weribee festival i am sure there lots of frustrated fans who would prefer to just go to a sideshow.

regardless of that, i attended last year, plan to attend this year, but would have loved to have the chance to see the black angels play a smaller intimate venue.

end pointless rant

shazie

Not as much as Parklife! A lineup that reflects the fun festival of the year signaling the start of summer and setting the precedent of what we can expect from the australian music scene. pretty sure the preset's new production will blow us away and really excited to see what direction that go in next. pretty sure they nailed our 3 favourite genre's with a great mix of dance, dubstep and live music. pretty sure this is going to sell like hot cakes.

YIIIEEWWW!!

Stefan Beck

If the sideshows are anything like last year (two Harvest acts, one as support) I'd guess the support for Beck would be Santigold and Sigur Ros would team up with Grizzly Bear or Beirut.
