Soundwave 2013 campaign bands

Thanks to the loud cries of Soundwave festival’s army of fans, the recent festival lineups have included a few bands that are relatively new, obscure or that simply haven’t made it out to Australia before. Several of these bands have been ‘Campaign Bands’ whose presence on the bill has been demanded by the pestering pleas of the punters in the Soundwave forums.

This has led to the festival booking several acts including Rolo Tomassi in 2010; Foxy Shazam and I See Stars last year; and A Rocket To the Moon and Zebrahead earlier this year.

This year the festival has whittled all the demands down to a shortlist of twenty ‘Campaign Bands’ that cover a range of genes from punk, rock, pop punk and metal’s many shades of black (progressive/groove/thrash/heavy).

There’s no absolute guarantee that any of the bands from the list will be included on the Soundwave 2013 lineup, but the past three years of Soundwave festival lineups certainly suggest that the festival is likely to find space for one or two of these bands. With a lineup featuring over 90 acts there’s always room to squeeze in a few lesser known/Campaign Bands in for a side stage set.

Check out the 20 acts that made it through to the Soundwave 2013 Campaign Band short list and (if you’re so inclined) you can vote for them over on the Soundwave forums

Maybe it's just the song choice here, but Telekinesis and Quietdrive don't sound like Soundwave bands. Quietdrive especially.

Anything except Tokio Hotel.

I know none of the others but I know that Tokio Hotel are terrible.

korpiklaani are my pick but they'd only work if given a late afternoon/early evening spot when everyone is reasonably drunk. knowing soundwave they'll open.

Holy Shit.
So much potential for Korpillikani and $8 beers.

diablo swing orchestra would be fucken amazing, but i'd prob'ly rather see 'em in a packed out club than an open stage.

anyway, the maddah juggernaut rolls on. he'll book who he wants to book. like previous years, if they're bands from the 'campaign' it's prob'ly sheer coincidence anyways.

evile would bring some old school fun i guess.

I think Korpiklaani are the winning band i.e most votes. Im campaigning for Soen who are still breaking out in Europe and UK hard to imagine they would come here but ill do my best to make it happen.

Dead Kelly are fucking awesome, haha. Since its come to light that they are quite obviously taking the piss, I think it's rather hilarious.
But on a serious note, as far as tech death metal stuff goes, the bogans got skillzz

this article should be called.. the twenty shittest bands you've never heard of. wheres the real metal? not this fringecore/breakdowncore/preteencore shit. havok and spineshank are the only two entries resembling actual metal. i didnt know soundwave was meant to be a festival for 12 year old scene kids? l.a.m.e.

I would really love to see Trust Company play soundwave. Their old stuff is so nostalgic of the early 00's. Even with their new album, they have still kept their iconic sound. Good to see another band not changing to suit the times

Fair point.

Didn't the Judas Priest singer start the whole leather and studs thing with bondage gear anyway? Makes it hilarious when metal fans are homophobes.
