Red Hot Chili Peppers confirm2013 Australian tour

There have been many rumours about when the Red Hot Chili Peppers will return to Australia and now we finally have word from the band that they’re coming “to Australia early next year”.

The band’s Australian born bassist Flea made the announcement during a Twitter Q&A session earlier today confirming the news to a doubly patriotic fan by the name of OzzieJimPerth.

The news of a tour in early 2013 certainly puts the band at the forefront of the rumours for Big Day Out, especially as they’re set to headline BDO partner festival Lollapalooza in August.

When BDO co-founder Ken West announced his new partnership with C3 Presents, the promoters of Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Music Festival, earlier this year he declared that “this new global relationship and its combined wealth of knowledge and experience can bring for Australian audiences and Australian and international artists.”

The Chili Willies headlined the Big Day Out, with Blink 182 and Foo Fighters, back in 2000 and were last seen on our shores for a headline tour in early 2007.

woah whats with the hate? the new album is definitely different to the old stuff but after 30 years do you really expect the same thing? i'm really looking forward to seeing josh live just from looking at who he has performed with in the past, including john on many occasions, let alone the amazing music he is making now.

Don't get me wrong, the RHCP were my favourite band in the '90s and I loved seeing them at the SFS in about 2001, but it has been a long time since they've done anything good.

tyler07

I've said it before and I'll say it again: RHCP would have to be one of the most overrated bands ever. Their popularity considering the amount of half-decent material they've released is absurd.

Picked this ages ago. Chillies used to be a good live band but they sound terrible these days and as people have already said, the new songs are gash. I'm going to say the rest of the top end of the mainstages will be: The Killers, Dizzee Rascal, Temper Trap and The Hives.

Now the more important issue is the Green/Boiler headliners. Thinking maybe Justice to do the Boiler, unsure about Green. Will probably be someone like Refused or Tomahawk.

I like Californication and Under the Bridge. A few other songs aren't too bad, but for the most part I hate everything else.

I was just thinking about this again, and realised there is no way Tomahawk would play BDO if RHCP were headlining. As far as I know Anthony Keidosiesosed (I'm not going to look it up) still hates Mike Patton. Plus from what I understand Mr Bungle were meant to play BDO in 2000 but didn't because RHCP didn't want them on the bill. That may not be true, but I'm sure I read it somewhere.

I think they were considered somewhat an alternative festival in the 1990s, but of course alternative was mainstream then. Probably shouldn't have been called alternative. Genre names like Alternative and Indie are stupid.

you guys are fucked, the chili peppers are probably one of the only bands that actually make music for the sake of making music, they're not in it for the money, they made around 80 songs with josh and only put 14 on the album, they picked those 14 because each song was different to what they usually put out, and they sound freggin amazing live, anthonys singing a hell of a lot better, chad goes a lot more crazy, flea is fuckin awesome as always, and josh can play like every instrument there is lol i don't know why your all against them
