Led Zeppelin Australiantour... sort of

Update:
The dates have been quietly confirmed by tour promoters VisionMax and tickets are now on sale.

While Robert Plant has gone on record several times that he has no interest in a Led Zeppelin reunion following their one-off show at London’s O2 Arena in 2007, late drummer John Bonham’s son, Jason, has taken matters into his own hands. Since 2010, he has been touring with four other musicians playing the extensive run of hits in his dad’s back catalogue under the name Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience.

“While Bonham and his band run through Led Zeppelin discography,” explains their bio, “a system of art sound and lighting enhances the spectacular performance. Giant screens showing classic accompanying historical archives of photographs and video of the legendary band, under the concept of futuristic art. The stunning atmosphere and staging powerful fans to take a personal journey into the past of Jason and become true stars of this media event.”

So, a tribute band with some fancy screens? Essentially. Still, the Experience has managed to garner quite the following already, with glowing reviews. Rolling Stone’s Ritchie Yorke describe the Experience’s gig in Dawson Creek (yes, it’s a real place) as “magic… This was much more than just another tribute band: the Bonham bloodline carries its own responsibilities. With state-of-the-art lighting and effects, dazzling video treatments and a crisp, thundering sound, the JBLZE offered a set of Led Zep gems that were strikingly faithful to the originals.”

Australia will now get their opportunity to “experience” Jason’s project for the first time ever. Although nothing has yet to be officially announced, a few quick searches have indicated that the Experience will be doing dates in July; including a show at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne on the 19th and a Challenge Stadium gig in Perth on the 21st.. More dates are presumably TBA.

Zeppelin fanatics are sure to snap up the tickets to this, which is more than likely the closest they will get to the real thing short of a John Bonham hologram.

Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience tour:
Thursday 13th September – Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Friday 14th September – Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Saturday 15th September – Challenge Stadium, Perth

Are you fucking kidding me? Homeboy needs to stop this shit. He's pissing all over his dad's legacy. You remember the Jason Bonham Band? They looked and sounded like Led Zeppelin. Their singer was ridiculously similar to Plant. Down to the way he moved on stage. At one point in that band, Jason had a collage of Zeppelin album covers on his drum head. He makes reference to the fact that his dad was in Led Zeppelin any opportunity he gets. He's a fucking good drummer. He needs to just form his own band and stop riding his dad's reputation. This is worse than Zappa Plays Zappa. At least that had some original musicians at some point

Who really cares?

If he wants to be in a Led Zep cover band then good for him.

It's not like Steel Dragon are going to be reuniting any time soon.

Yes. For all of 5 minutes. He joined the band during their least successful period and also used that same drumkit

Judging from the reaction to this story it was far from a was far from a well known piece of news. There was something on the Enmore's [URL="http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150914070690813&set=a.365541335812.195686.365533045812&type=1"]facebook page with a link that just takes you to the Enmore site where there's no further info, but I haven't seen it reported anywhere else yet.

i don't really understand why jason has put his name to it. there is no doubt in my mind, that bonzo was the greatest drummer to ever exist. and it's great that jason wants to keep the legacy. but really, it's just a tribute show. it's like david campbell's cold chisel experience...just fucking weird.
maybe i'm just being anal?

I think Jason probably enjoys doing it, thinks he has as much right as anyone to put on a Led Zeppelin show and is making some money out of it.

I'm sure he considers it a tribute to his father rather than a destruction of the legacy.

I don't really care. I think it's dumb and I have no interest in seeing it, but I don't begrudge him for doing it.

Would go if it was Auckland an sub-$65.

But this child needs to stop acting as if it was him on stage with Zeppelin when drum solos weren't about the lights.

Also, I saw this on ticketmaster AU at least a week ago. Not worth reporting straight away, to be fair.

Amazed that Cr1zZ didn't beat his dick for seven hours straight over this.
