On The Bright Side 2012cancelled

On the day the Splendour in the Grass lineup was finally announced the gang over at the On the Brightside took to Facebook to declare “We’re back!” and ask fans to offer suggestions for this year’s lineup.

However just a few weeks on the situation has changed dramatically for punters in Perth with the sudden announcement tonight that “Due to conflicting artist schedules we have decided to give On the Bright Side a miss for 2012. We only want to deliver On the Bright Side to you as an event of the highest possible quality and we hope to see you with another cracker in 2013!”

So far only Smashing Pumpkins and Metric have announced Splendour in the Grass sideshows in the west (two more than the folks in Brisbane and Adelaide are getting) and at this stage there’s no indication to suggest that the On the Brightside cancellation will open the way for more Perth sideshows.

The first two years of On the Brightside saw Mumford and Sons, The Strokes, Hot Chip, Modest Mouse, Band of Horses, The Hives, The Kills, Pulp, Foster the People, James Blake Tame Impala, The Grates, Art vs. Science, Bluejuice, Angus and Julia Stone and The Middle East all warming up for Splendour with sets in Perth.

Although the festival will be skipping 2012, Perth punters have something to cheer as Rock It festival returns, after a two year break, on Sunday 28th October with The Black Keys in the headline slot.

Quick shot typo correction! Thought I'd corrected that before anyone would have noticed!
