The Smashing Pumpkins will play three huge Splendour in The Grass sideshows when they reach our shores in July.

Having already confirmed additional gigs for much of the Splendour lineup, including Lana Del Rey, The Shins and Jack White, we are very excited to announce that the Pumpkins will be debuting a whole new stage design in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth later this year.

Elaborating on the performance concept Billy Corgan has said: “Australia is the perfect place to usher in a new era of The Smashing Pumpkins, where we look to combine an epic rock show with the latest in visual mapping technology to create a one-of-a-kind experience for our fans.”

While little more detail has been given about what exactly this experience will entail, we do know it was created to visually enhance the presentation of the band’s forthcoming album Oceania. Chatting with FasterLouder about the record’s themes earlier this week Corgan revealed, “[It’s about] being an astronaut and being an island unto yourself. Isolation is definitely a key theme…[and] trying to struggle with how to remain yourself and love at the same time, truly love somebody, or love your life. And at the same time, how to stay who you are and commit to the technological overkill.”

Speaking of island’s unto themselves, Andrew Stockdale will lead Wolfmother as the main support in both Melbourne and Sydney, with Perth guests soon to be announced.

FasterLouder presents The Smashing Pumpkins Splendour sideshows:
Thursday 26th July – Challenge Stadium, Perth
Tuesday 31st July – Entertainment Centre, Sydney
Thursday 2nd August – Hisense Arena, Melbourne

Tickets go on sale at 9am Wednesday 9th May with a pre-order of Oceania available with each ticket for a special price.

People have been buying tickets on the back of the small chance that they may see Billy Corgan give Thom Yorke a golden shower live.

whoops my bad. they're only using half of the top level. so it's more like 6500-7000.

I am happy for the 90's to be in.

Anyhow I saw The Smashing Pumpking at the big top in Sydney last tour, and to be honest, I had a good night. Barring major clashes I will watch them again at Splendour

Quote of the Year from that:

"Where I've been attacked the most for expressing any particular opinion, oustide of my world, is if I question in any way the global warming climate change narrative, that is the most virulent attacks that i've seen from people if I question that"
