Harvest Festival 2012 lineupcoming this month

Update – 4th June
According to a new tweet from festival promoter AJ Maddah, the Harvest lineup will be revealed next week.

The ever-vocal Mr AJ Maddah has confirmed that we will have the Harvest Festival lineup in our clammy little hands by the end of May. The 2012 festival will be held in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane from 10th-18th November.

Responding to a twitter follower’s enquiry about the timing of this year’s announcement Maddah said: ”Can’t put an exact date on it as of yet, but we’re hoping for late May.”

Rumours have already started swirling about possible headliners for the 2012 event, which last year drew the likes of Portishead, TV On The Radio and The Flaming Lips to its stages. Having secured such a strong bill in its inaugural year Harvest hopefuls are already dropping names like Sleigh Bells and Franz Ferdinand, both of who were strongly rumoured to have been playing Splendour In The Grass.

Today’s confirmation that Sigur Ros will return to our shores in coming months has added the Icelandic wonders to a growing wish-list which includes the revived My Bloody Valentine and long-shots Arcade Fire.

While the Melbourne leg of last year’s Harvest Festival was plagued by issues such as parking and long drink lines, the indie-fest was widely considered a success, with our Brisbane reviewer concluding: “Harvest turned out one of the best curated Australian festivals of 2011, immaculate in its execution and in turn having drawn the kind of punter you don’t want to smack in the mouth to the final leg of the tour in Brisbane.”

Hmm, after all the anticipation and speculation I don't think I'll be going.
Seen most of those bands before, some a couple of times and no big favourites.
Maybe Santigold sidey, will wait to see 2nd round before I decide...

MorningAfterboy

MorningAfterboy said on the 14th Jun, 2012

Maybe the response to this would be more receptive if you fuckwits hadn't predicted every band to ever pick up an instrument to be on the lineup.

LukeWarm

LukeWarm said on the 14th Jun, 2012

Last year's lineup was pretty much my dream lineup and this year's.....isn't. Just doesn't do a lot for me. Ah well

Oflick

Oflick said on the 14th Jun, 2012

It's a bit underwhelming in the sense that the highest billed bands have been here relatively recently (at least in comparison to Portishead). But Mondo Cane is the only one I have seen, so I'm definitely going.

Fake Plastic Android

Fake Plastic Android said on the 14th Jun, 2012

gumbuoy

gumbuoy said on the 14th Jun, 2012

Beck and Cake are the only two bands I love on that lineup, and I've seen them both before. Any other day they'd be enough to get me there, but that day, possibly not.

Piko

Piko said on the 14th Jun, 2012

Well unlike those cool cats here that have seen a number of the bands on this bill, I am quite happy that just like last year there are plenty of new and OLD bands that I never managed to see before. Very content with the lineup, its going to be another awesome day.

Fuck Buttons is the only international listed there that I've seen before. Only The National last year had I seen before. (i'm obviously not commenting on local acts)

berlinchair101

Braveheart81

Aside from Portishead and Bright Eyes, the rest of last year's lineup had mostly been here several times recently.

Oflick

Oflick said on the 14th Jun, 2012

Ah OK. I was under the impression a substantial number of bands on the lineup hadn't been to Australia in a long time.

Even if that were so, I prefer this lineup to last year.

Fuck yes, satisfied by that line-up.

But why are Ben Fold's Five listed so low? Surely they'd be bigger than Grizzly Bear.

Sorry for the delayed reaction, was in exam at the time of the announcement.

shazie

shazie said on the 14th Jun, 2012

I have an exam tomorrow, my study is being messed up by this awesome announcement. Also, I don't reckon that's too low, 5th on the lineup isn't bad.

jacegalvin

jacegalvin said on the 14th Jun, 2012

I thought they'd be second or third, above Mike Patton.

Nosyt

Nosyt said on the 15th Jun, 2012

Just a thought, if AJ is bringing on a very 90's friendly festival, perhaps he's holding back TISM for the second announcement?

Oflick

Oflick said on the 15th Jun, 2012

I wouldn't say it's that 90s to begin with anyway. The majority of the bands I'd consider recent.

Braveheart81

Braveheart81 said on the 15th Jun, 2012

Beck, Cake, Ben Folds Five are all very '90s. Mondo Cane might be new, but Mike Patton is a massive '90s figure.

Piko

Piko said on the 15th Jun, 2012

Its a good splattering of 90's this year is true.

Last year wasn't as much.. Mercury Rev, Portishead...
compared to Beck, Cake, Ben Folds Five and The Dandy Warhols.

And yes, Patton was a 90's idol

Oflick

Oflick said on the 15th Jun, 2012

I'd say 3 bands are definitely very 90s (Beck, Cake, and Ben Folds Five) and Mondo Cane and Ozomatli would probably be considered 90s, even if some of them are still successful today. Still, that's 5/16, a bit under a third. Not what I'd consider to have a very 90s feel.

Braveheart81

Braveheart81 said on the 15th Jun, 2012

It's mostly the top end of the lineup though.

Oflick

Oflick said on the 15th Jun, 2012

True, that's a fair point. Generally speaking though, the top of a lineup is usually older bands.

And I wouldn't call The Dandy Warhols a 90s band. Their first few albums were released in the 90s, but I'd consider them a 00s-now band.

berlinchair101

berlinchair101 said on the 15th Jun, 2012

All their 'classic' records were in the 90's

Oflick

Oflick said on the 15th Jun, 2012

Braveheart81

Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia was actually released in 2000.

But it certainly holds true that they were biggest from the late '90s to the early '00s.
