Update: A second Brisbane show has been added on May 26th. Tickets on sale Monday April 23rd.

So this is what it sounds like when doves cry! After months of rumour-mongering and false starts the Prince Australian tour dates have finally been announced.

The Purple one will land on our shores for the first time in eight years this May, and with his most recent US shows featuring costume changes, greatest hits medleys, dancing a-top pianos and guitar solos galore it’s safe to say we are in for one hell of a Princely treat.

Tour promoters Chugg had forecast that the long awaited tour announcement would come tomorrow, but the Purple Rain has started falling a little early with Everguide leaking the Prince tour dates in a story forward dated to April 12th.

Prince has announced single shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in mid-May, with plenty of room for extra shows (and after-parties). The tour will feature a huge full scale arena production including “groundbreaking technology and a complete 360 degree stage”.

Friday 11th May – Allphones Arena, Sydney
Saturday 12th May – Allphones Arena, Sydney
Monday 14th May – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
Tuesday 15th May – Rod Laver, Melbourne
Friday 18th May – Entertainment Centre, Brisbane
Saturday May 26th – Entertainment Centre, Brisbane – JUST ADDED
Wednesday 30th May – Rod Laver, Melbourne

On both of his previous Australian tours Prince has played ‘secret’ intimate club shows after his sold out stadium gigs – so keep an ear out for word of some special extra dates!

Looks like there's gonna be another show in Sydney some time after the 21st of May. The promoters just announced a competition and the T&Cs kinda give it away.

The prize: 2 Purple Reserve Tickets to Prince W2 Australia concert in declared State, 10 Prince CD’s and tour
poster. The prize will be delivered within 24 hours of the competition closing. The winner should make reasonable
attempt to accommodate delivery.
7. The winner will be responsible for all travel costs associated with travel to and from the concert.
8. The winning entry will be selected by a panel of judges based on creativity and integration of Prince song names
into their entry. The winner will be notified by email and or by phone 24 hours of their selection.
9. The prize promotion opens on May 1st, 2012, at 3pm and closes on May 21st, 2012, at 11am (“the Closing Date”)

I really enjoyed Tuesday night's show. Prince is a really great showman.

I had a really good night even though I've never been a big Prince fan.

The one thing I had issue with was the sound. Too many occurrences of feedback and Prince's guitar was just a bit too loud. Whilst I loved his guitar work, some of it was really ear-splitting. I was incredibly deaf after the show.

Yeah it was a bit like that for the Brisbane show. It would be a pretty big mission for the sound guys to judge considering they have to cater for the sound around the entire Arena and most likely make the best judgement they can with the help of some other engineers around the arena possibly making suggestions to the front of house engineer throughout the show.

On Tuesday, I walked in the door that was said on my ticket to find no usher there and a curtain covering where I was supposed to be. My entire section had been curtained off. Meant I got a free upgrade to a gold seat down the front of the third elevation - a minor upgrade, sure, but it was enough for me.

Really fun show, was dancing almost all the time through it. Probably ranked around 2nd or 3rd in my top shows of the year so far.

AFTER playing to more than 100,000 people in less than three weeks in a three-city tour that grossed more than $12 million, Prince yesterday boarded his jet to return to his home near Minneapolis in the US.

Just eight weeks after his Welcome 2 tour was announced the 53-year-old pop star has completed what will go down as one of the shortest, most low-fuss tours of a star to this country. Tour promoter Garry Van Egmond says the only other tour ever run like this in Australia happened in 2002, the last time Prince came to town.With 100,000 tickets sold for between $100 and $150, gross sales will amount to an estimated $12.5 million. At each show 120 people each paid $450 to sit next to the stage in a cabaret-style "purple zone".
