First taste of SufjanStevens’ Vivid LIVEcollaboration

Due to demand a third Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner and Nico Muhly show has been added to Vivid LIVE.

Next month Sufjan Stevens, The National’s Bryce Dessner and composer Nico Muhly will bring an exceptional collaboration to Sydney as part of the 2012 Vivid Live program. While we have been told that the collab will be a “song-cycle loosely based on the planets” and the trio will be “accompanied by a trombone choir, string quartet, and percussion” little more has been revealed about the performance, until now.

The trio work-shopped the forthcoming collaboration at MusicNOW Festival in Ohio over the weekend, where they performed a song titled Venus while accompanied by seven trombones and a string quartet, Pitchfork reports.

Thanks to a nifty Sufjan fan it was all caught on camera as well, so check out the footage below for your first taste of what’s in store come May.

There was a review of this in SMH yesterday.

7 trombones!

As a former trombone player, this is awesome. Very excited about this show.
