Confusion as The Cranberriescancel their Sydney show atlast minute

Update: (27/3/12)
thankfully the replacement gig went off without a hitch – check out the review and photos

There was confusion at the Enmore last night with The Cranberries cancelling their set just minutes before their scheduled headline set.

The support act, Bonjah, played their set at as 8pm as scheduled, but just minutes before the The Cranberries were due to hit the stage at 9.15 an announcement revealed that the headliners had been cancelled and the show would be rescheduled to Monday night.

FasterLouder’s reviewer at the gig explains that “Just after 9, an announcement came over the P.A saying one of the band members had a medical issue, had to be rushed to hospital and that the show was to be postponed till monday. Most people thought it was a joke at first, but a second announcement just repeated the same information. Understandably, amidst all the confusion, the crowd were quite shocked and taken aback, with the majority standing around aimlessly for quite a while. Rather amusingly, one German girl behind me exclaimed “what the f’ is duss!” before leaving in a huff. This was also after Bonjah had finished playing, with a good 20-30 minute interval.”

Our photographer also witnessed the strange scene: “When they were due to come on stage and perform, an announcement came on stating that the show has been postponed as one of the band member had to be taken to the hospital. I ask one of the Enmore Theatre people and it was confirmef that Dolores was apparently taken to the hospital last minute! No one really believed it and everyone remained there thinking it was a joke! Took a while for everyone to take it in and finally they all started moving! Refunds was given to those who couldn’t make the reschedule Mon show and there was a lot waiting at the Box Office! It was surreal ‘cos it was done literally when they were due to go on stage! Early April Fools joke!”

Official statement from The Cranberries:

Hi Guys,

We want to apologise for tonight’s last minute cancellation at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. It was unavoidable, and we’re very sorry. Dolores is suffering from food poisoning and was unable to perform. Right up to the last minute we were hoping the show might be able to go ahead, but Dolores was just too unwell.

We know you’re all very disappointed and this has been a huge inconvenience for you. Hopefully most of you can make the re-scheduled show. Once again, we’re very, very sorry…

Noel, Mike, Ferg and Dolores

The band were unable to perform after being attacked by zombies, zombays, zombey-ey-ey-ey-eys.

waited until the moment they were due on stage, did they have to let it linger?

Oh fuck, that rumour about Lenny strapping the audiences to their seat and being forced to watch him turned out to be true??

still waiting for my Sydney ticket refund...

Finally saw The Cranberries in Brizzy last night and they were awesome. Was surprised how great they sounded like it was still the 90s
As for Lenny, we left after a few songs, he murdered It Aint Over, just couldn't get those high notes.
Overall I find him very middle of the road ie: boring as batshit.
But at least we got reduced tickets.

Ya know....i thought Lenny was going to be MOR and boring in sydney, but I actually think he and his band did a good job. True, I would not rush out and see him again, and he truly only has a few memorable songs, but that horn section was monstorous and so was Craig Ross. The Cranberries...well, ahem, and we won't even mention Wolfmother!
