The First Ever AustralianMusic Prize To Be Announced

Details for the Australian Music Prize have been announced, with the first ever recipient set to be announced in March 2006. Similarly to the prestigious Mercury Music Prize handed out in the UK each year, the Australian Music Prize looks to increase widespread exposure of local artists, which will serve to enhance their global career aspirations.

Nominations for the 2005 award will open on October 3rd, with selections open through until December 23rd. A final shortlist of wight nominees will then be announced in February, followed by an event in March where the eventual winner of The Amp 2005 will be revealed and awarded with a $25,000 cash prize.

The judging panel for the award will consist of over fifty industry pundits selected by the Patron Steering Committee (PSC) due to their ability to expertly review music. Judges will be drawn from all aspects of the Australian music scene, including music retailers, music journalists, established artists and music event promoters.
