Splendour 2012 lineup clues– Fuji Rock edition

Update: (19/4/12)
A fourth round of bands has added Ray Davies, Django Django, The D.O.T (Robert Harvey of The Music and The Streets’ Mike Skinner), Ed Sheeran, Annie Mac, The Field, M Ward, Dumpstaphunk, Toots & the Maytals and others to the lineup.

Update: (30/3/12)
Fuji’s third round announcement has added Spiritualized, Gossip, Fucked Up plus Anthony Joseph, Moritz Von Oswald Trio, New Cool Collective, Agoria and Japanese bands Denki Groove, The Back Horn, Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro, Special Others and chatmonchy to the lineup.

Update: (15/3/12)
The second round lineup has added Refused, Earnest Ranglin, The Trojans, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Elvin Bishop, Owl City, The Heartbreaks, Araab Muzik, My Best Fiend and Onda Vaga to the bill.

Last year Fuji Rock and Splendour in the Grass shared an impressive lineup of acts including Coldplay, Mogwai, The Kills, Noah And The Whale, Warpaint, The Vaccines and more so we’re hoping that the release of the Fuji lineup for 2012 offers a few lineup hints for this year’s Splendour bill.

After all Splendour organiser Jess Ducrou did tell us last year that the relationship with the Japanese festivals Summer Sonic and Fuji Rock is likely to be much closer in 2012 – “We’ve always had a light dialogue on dates and so on,” she explained, “but interestingly this year we have started talking more with them and I think that will really benefit everyone”.

We know that Fuji’s top-billing headliners – Radiohead and The Stone Roses – are not Splendour bound, but surely some of these newly announced acts could manage to jump on a plane to Byron Bay.

The Shins have already spilled the beans that they’re ‘pencilled in’ for Splendour and we’d love to think that they’ll be checking in next to the likes of At The Drive-In, Jack White, Caribou, Beady Eye, Explosions In The Sky, Justice, Michael Kiwanuka and Howler. James Blake played Splendour last year and while we’d also love a repeat of The Specials’ show at Splendour 2009 they’ll be in Byron at Easter for Bluesfest so a return visit so soon seems unlikely.

Both Splendour in the Grass and Fuji Rock will be held from Friday 27th – Sunday 29th July.

Fuji Rock 2012 lineup:

The Stone Roses
At The Drive-In
Beady Eye
Jack White
Buddy Guy
Busy P
Elvis Costello And The Imposters
The Shins
The Specials
Explosions In The Sky
Factory Floor
Hiromi The Trio Project featuring Anthony Jackson & Simon Phillips
James Blake
James Iha
The Kooks
Los Lonely Boys
Michael Kiwanuka
Ocean Colour Scene

Summer Sonic – the other Japanese festival that shares some of its lineup with Splendour – has locked in Franz Ferdinand, Sigur Ros, SBTRKT, Passion Pit and Foster The People.

Other Splendour in the Grass 2012 rumours include Bloc Party, Sleigh Bells, The Ting Tings and Band of Skulls.

Jack White starts his solo tour in about a weeks time. very very curious to see the structure of his setlists. a mix of solo/white stripes/sabos? (had to go change underwear after typing that sentence)

The possibility of At The Drive-In caused a little movement in my pants.

At The Drive-In, EITS, The Shins & Jack White.

From this I would say we can basically lock in Jack White, Justice, Sigur Ros, Caribou, Shins and Beardy Eye. At the Drive In would be nice, but I just don't see it going down that way. I hope not.

No real idea of headliners yet - but Jack White could headline on a smaller night. Flight of the Conchords could do it and possibly headline

I'm pretty sure this is the only British band MAB loves.

Flight of Concords headlining would be a nightmare.

Didn't Beady Eye play Fuji in 2011? Due here anyway.

berlinchair101 said on the 1st Mar, 2012

To be honest, does anyone actually want to see Beady Eye, I just want to see Liam Gallagher punch some cunts.

For some reason it's missing Beady Eye and Jack White?

oldgregg said on the 2nd Mar, 2012

Would not pay money to see Beady Eye, maybe if they played oasis.. Noel has more than proved he was everything positive about Oasis, puts Liam to shame.

Odd - both still listed on the [URL=""]Fuji site though.

I only saw Oasis once live, at Livid, and Noel put Liam to shame right there on the stage in their performances. They didn't need new bands to prove who was the better musician, and who was being carried.
