The songs that almost made theHottest 100

You already know which songs made it to the Hottest 100 for 2011 and which songs were most played by the team at triple j in 2011, now we have yet another list for you – the Hottest 101-200.

The list of the less favoured, yet still reasonably hot, tunes reveals just how close we came to tragedy with songs including Nero’s Aaron Carter tribute Crush On You and S.Mouse’s classic Slap My Elbow both making the list.

Both Nero and Justice managed to get three tracks into the second tier list, which also includes 46 local tunes that didn’t receive quite enough of the 1.3 million votes cast in the annual poll to make it into the Hottest 100 countdown on Australia Day.

jens lekman's 'an argument with myself' is an amazing song that deserved to be in the 100. also... it's aaron. c'mon. google words if you're not sure.

how doesn't the vasco era make the top 200 songs? the music taste of the 'youth' is getting ridiculous.

mastodon didn't even make it it into the top 200 it seems. i don't know if this list is any better, but i recognise more of the songs in it.

san cisco is one of those bands where i can't figure out whether i like them or not. i'll give their song in this a go.

Never thought I'd see the day when misspelling Aaron Carter's name gets you called out on FL, but at least your first point is spot on.

daveyac8881

daveyac8881 said on the 8th Feb, 2012

Why are you always so eager to give Aaron a mention grattan? It's not even his song!

What's wrong with S.Mouse? He makes hip hop bearable AND has this strange and mysterious thing called "wit", I've heard people used to like.

berlinchair101

berlinchair101 said on the 12th Feb, 2012

S.Mouse is about as funny as a breech birth.

gumbuoy

Now, not so much.

He was also a few years late to be basing his hip hop schtik on Soulja Boy

Because hearing a remix of this on jjj's regular rotation is a crime beyond words and must be mentioned as often as possible.

Poor Big Scary!!! 104 with Galdiator!! well thats a shame. When they asked their fans on Facebook to vote for Gladiator, two thirds said "I voted for Mix Tape!" ummmah. Alas, they left their street teaming too late!

Their ep stuff is much better than album stuff anyway newbies didn't deserve 100 although half the songs in the 100 don't so my argument is pointless & circular

But it's not a remix of that, it's a remix of the original:

It's as much Aaron Carter's song as Whole Lotta Love is Gabriella Cilmi's

grattan

grattan said on the 14th Feb, 2012

True, but it's much easier to treat the song with the contempt it deserves by aligning it with Aaron Carter.
