The top place on triple j’s Hottest 100 poll for 2011 is about as surprising as Triple M listeners voting for AC/DC as the greatest Australian band ever but the full list does contain few surprises and plenty of opportunities for you to throw up your hands and scream “How the hell did that song possibly rank so highly!”.

One of Katy Perry’s favourite tunes of 2011 – Gotye’s Someboby That I Used To Know unsurprisingly topped the poll ahead of tracks from Boy and Bear, M83 and The Black Keys.

Despite the runaway success of the Gotye/Kimbra collaboration in the audience voted poll, the song was only the 60th most played song on triple j in 2011 clocking up just 135 plays for the year. The most regularly aired song on triple j during the past year – Foster the People’s Helena Beat – could only manage 15th place in the annual Hottest 100 poll.
