The real Hottest 100

Forget the official Hottest 100 countdown – the real list of 2011’s best songs according to the triple j team has already been revealed.

According to the stats provided by J-play (which collects info on triple j’s playlist but isn’t actually affiliated with the station) triple j’s programmers thought that the hottest track of 2010 was Foster The People’s Helena Beat which the station aired 192 times last year. In comparison this year’s almost certain poll winner – Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know was played a mere 135 times. Although triple j’s playlist clearly gives Foster The People an advantage the bookies made Gotye’s single the unbackable favourite to top the Hottest 100 poll ahead of “Any Other Song”.

Then again the airplay stats don’t necessarily reflect the tastes of triple’s j listeners or voters. Last year’s poll winner – Angus and Julia Stone’s Big Jet Plane wasn’t anywhere to be seen in the list of the top 100 songs played by triple j in 2010, while Little Red’s Rock It scored the second place on both the airplay and audience voted Hottest lists.

Triple j’s real Hottest 10 songs of 2011:

1 Helena Beat – Foster The People (Plays – 192)
2 Contact High -Architecture In Helsinki (Plays – 191)
3 Embody -SebastiAn (Plays – 185)
4 Bad Gal – Savage Skulls (feat. Robyn & Douster) (Plays – 175)
5 Treehouse – Gold Fields (Plays – 172)
6 Zimbabwe – New Navy (Plays – 171)
7 Buy Nothing Day – The Go! Team (Plays – 171)
8 Dreamshaker – Redcoats (Plays – 170)
9 Black Water Rising – Stonefield (Plays – 169)
10 Jungle – Emma-Louise (Plays – 169)
