2012 will be the last time the Big Day Out takes place in New Zealand, according to the NZ Herald.
Promoter Ken West tweeted from the event’s official feed this afternoon: “This year will be New Zealand’s last Big Day Out. Come party with us this Friday. It’s been an amazing 18 years here in Auckland.”
West had previously spoken candidly with the Herald about the problems Big Day Out has faced this year, including the challenges of meeting lofty audience expectations, the bidding wars pushing up festival costs, the departure of the festival’s co-founder Viv Lees, and the plans for the future of the festival.
Preparing for the Australian leg of the festival this week – which has dealt with its own fair share of problems – West also vocalised his issues with competing festivals such as Soundwave in Australia.
