Perth finally has a Fringe Festival again!

Last year the Artrage folk began plans to hold a Fringe Festival in Perth to coincide with the Perth International Arts Festival, and after the success of their practice run, have unveiled a full scale fringe for 2012. From 26th Jan – 19th Feb “The Boutique Fringe at the Edge of the World” Fringe World will be entertaining Perth audiences with the quirky and the offbeat and frankly experimental arts and music events we’ve been pining for.

Fringe World brings us 150 shows including the return of Barry Morgan, the Wau Wau Sisters and The Freak and the Showgirl. On the musical front, you can see The Orb and Bomb the Bass, Bob Log III and a redux of Fritz Lang’s Dystopian filmic masterpiece, Metropolis

The old Treasury Building is being opened to the public for the first time in 15 years becoming a key venue, along with the Perth Town Hall. Expect to see burlesque and aerial acrobatics, cabaret, comedy, music and theatre productions inside the treasury for the last time before the building is again closed for restoration as part of the wider central city precinct redevelopment project. The vacant lot between Treasury and Town Hall will become the Treasure Chest, a free outdoor performance space and the entrance to the festival. Other venues include the comedy hub in Northbridge, the Perth Cultural Centre, the Spiegeltent and the new State Theatre courtyard.
