Soundwave update: one banddrops off, two more added

Following on from yesterday’s controversial Big Day Out vs Soundwave debate, promoter AJ Maddah has made a number of announcements of his own regarding this year’s event.

Speaking via twitter this afternoon Maddah has announced that Dragonforce will no longer be playing Soundwave 2012, “due to recording delays”, but that the festival has secured doom metal stalwarts Paradise Lost and US rockers Switchfoot in their place.

Maddah tweeted that, ”There’ll be few announcements today”, so stay tuned to Fasterlouder for more updates.

-

Update: Since making this announcement on Friday, Maddah has also confirmed that Devin Townsend and Meshuggah will team up for Sidewaves in Melbourne and Sydney, with full details to be revealed this week. While Cathedral, Paradise Lost and Turisas will form a triple bill for a Sidewave in both Melbourne and Sydney as well.

And for those of you just hanging out for festival settimes, Maddah is hoping to release the Soundwave timetables this week, revealing that: “Main stages are done. As is stage 3, and stages 4(a) & 4 (b). Now working on 5(a) & 5 (b)....

Do people actually genuinely like that band or do they just like to watch that beastly Asian guitarist?

I'm mostly disappointed about not being able to see how and if they can pull it off live.

And yeah, the Asian is awesome

Quality and quantity don't matter when you have massive loads of these people in their flocks selling out the festivals.

I hope to see My Dying Bride once before I die.

Sad about Dragonforce, they are epically good fun live, though Paradise Lost is a very acceptable replacement, imho. Never thought I'd get to see them. Going to have to find one of their newer albums, I think the last thing I listened to was Draconian Times.

anyone dissing switchfoot clearly have never seen this band live. do it - you will not be disappointed. unless you're a fan of those kind of bands that sound awesome on cd but suck dog's balls live (*coughmetallicacough* *splutterdragonforcecough*) switchfoot are amazing live or recorded. have a listen to their latest album, vice verses. this is the most radio-friendly song off it; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_5oe0ijhkg

not the best song on the album, but the most popular thus far i think. people really need to broaden their musical horizons, if this is the first many of you have ever heard of switchfoot.

oh my god - because they have an association with christian music in the us? get over it guys. decent music is decent music - it shouldn't matter that they often play christian music festivals and the like. they were here last year for a little festival in toowoomba (easterfest.com.au - incidentally p.o.d. will be there this year) and during their set most of the other stages were flooded, the rain was very heavy - and yet people stayed to hear them. they are worth it.
