Founding member of At the Drive-In, Jim Ward has been forced to cancel his Sydney sideshow, scheduled to take place at Sandringham Hotel tomorrow evening.
A statement released by the singer reads: “We just found out a dear friend of Gabe and I has been murdered – we need to get home to be with family, friends and have the support of our gang”
The friend of Gabe’s is Esme Barrera a well known figure in the Austin music scene who was found murdered in her home two day ago. The 29-year-old was well loved by many in the close-knit community and dozens of bands have sent an outpouring of condolences over the last two days. Matador Record’s Gerard Cosloy wrote a particular poignant blog entry about Esme which can be read here.
