Molly Meldrum is making steady progress in his recovery following a fall in his Melbourne home last month.
Speaking with ABC News 24, Meldrum’s brother Brian Meldrum said the music industry veteran was resting comfortably after a successful operation to repair fractured vertebra.
“Since he had the accident all the steps that he’s made have been forward steps, albeit it little ones, but they’ve all been forward steps and this operation is certainly not a backwards step, it’s perhaps marking time for a day or two and then he’ll be up and away again we hope” explained Brian.
Meldrum was left with head injuries, a broken collarbone, broken ribs and fractured vertebra after falling three meters down stairs while putting up Christmas decorations on December 15. He was taken to Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital where he has been recovering in the ICU since.
With no further surgeries planned Brain Meldrum hopes to see his brother move out of ICU within the next week.
“Next step would be to come out of the intensive care unit and then through the trauma ward and that will probably occur, possibly this time next week or perhaps a little bit earlier, that would be the next significant step in his recovery.”
