Rejoice! Mastodon 2012Sidewaves revealed

Enduring FasterLouder heroes Mastodon were already one of the most unmissable acts on the Soundwave 2012 line-up – and now Melbourne and Sydney have Sidewaves to gloat about as well.

By the time Mastodon arrive in Australia, it’ll be over a year since their last circuit of the country – too long in any fan’s opinion. On that tour they “rightfully earned their place at the top of the metal mountain” in the words of our Sydney reviewer, and you can expect them to be in formidable form again. Adding an extra dash of awesome is the news that Gojira and Kvelertak are also on the bill.

Mastodon, Kvelertak and Gojira Sidewaves:
Monday 27th February – Billboard, Melbourne [18+]
Thursday 1st March – The Hi-Fi, Sydney [LIC/ALL AGES]

Tickets on sale Thursday 15 December, 9am AEST

Cheers. 8 o'clock it is then. Nice to see that it's done and dusted nice and early for my old man bones.

MorningAfterboy

MorningAfterboy said on the 1st Mar, 2012

Haha, works for me too. I think they have to start/finish early because of their location. Hordern shows pretty much have to be done by 11, too.

Awesome show, although not the best set list, made me appreciate just how inferior The Hunter is to their other four albums.

Crystal Skull was worth the price of admission alone and March of the Fire Ants/Blood and Thunder back to back was by far the highlight of the night. They have far too much great material to squeeze into a 75min set

Dear Berlinchair,

Thanks for being a good sport/kind guy by giving me some space to shoot some average as fuck photos

Fixed.

I though the new album sounded a lot stronger live. I knew they would play a lot of it, I was glad they only played one song from Crack The Skye.

Dear Jose,

No worries, I could see Brent perfectly so it was all good.

Stay rad,

Thanks, forgot about that one, that kicked off the awesomeness

I'd love to see them play a set of Blood Mountain, that album is amazing

Also the venue is good, very different to the forum but it's much better, the sound was a lot better and the lay out is much more warm, spacious and sensical

Haha - loved the show. All three bands were great. Idiot grin on my face from the moment Kvelertak started swinging the guitars around with this:

The renovations are really good - good to see the narrow front of stage punter chute gone and a big floor opened up.

berlinchair101 said on the 1st Mar, 2012

Yeah that's a great track.

Disappointed I didn't spot you or MAB, but I did see Jose and the singer of Gay Paris, so all in all it was a good night.

MorningAfterboy

Cracker of an evening. All 3 bands put on great sets. I was up on the mezzanine, great sound and view up there. Really like what they've done with the place, am looking forward to Ben Kweller and Manchester Orchestra.

Sheeeeet MAB - three shows in the Hi-Fi's opening week. Have you moved in/taken a job working the bar?

MorningAfterboy

MorningAfterboy said on the 2nd Mar, 2012

Hahaha, I wish! They just happened to have 3 of my favourite acts within the first week. Surely a sign of good things to come!
