New Beginnings cancelled dueto “shocking ticket sales”

The New Beginnings festival promised “music; merriment; magic; madness and mind-blowing memories” with an ecclectic lineup that included Euro-dance cheeseball stars Vengaboys, Mississippi garage two piece Bass Drum Of Death and a stack of locals including Hungry Kids Of Hungry, Bleeding Knees Club and Loon Lake.

The promoters were hoping that 3000 punters would turn up dressed as zombies for the “apocolyptic disco” themed party, but after “shocking ticket sales” they have been forced to cancel the event. The undead remains of the festival can still be enjoyed at three replacement gigs to be held on 14th of January.

A post from the New Beginnings promoters on the festival’s Facebook wall made the announcement last Friday – “I am sorry to tell you that we have cancelled New Beginnings… it is a sad day for us here and we hope we don’t cause to much inconvenience for people planning on attending. Thank you to everyone involved to try and make it happen and all the acts.

The promoters later replied to comments from festival punters to explain that the cancellation was due to “lack of ticket sales… shocking ticket sales actually… festivals are dying and we unfortunately have to follow so many other festivals and cancel. The festival market is to saturated and there simply isn’t room for this event until the market settles itself – maybe it will be revived in a few years time. Thank you to everyone who did support the event and who have purchased a ticket. A full refund is available from your point of purchase. I am sorry to everyone we couldn’t make this event work… sad sad day!”

i've got nothing against peter combe but i think if he's fifth down from the headliner, your festival's not the best idea

that *anyone* bought a ticket at all is the only thing that's 'shocking' about this...

The 2011 version of blaming things on the global financial crisis?

So they knew there wasn't room for this festival, yet they still went ahead with trying to organise it?

Yer as if anyone who liked most of the lineup would want to pay for Vengaboys as as headliner, And noone who likes Vengaboys would care about anyone else in the lineup. was always going to fail

Hey guys! I'm starting up my own festival with Eifle 65 headlining and fleshing out the rest of the bill with local bands from Cunnamulla.

Any game investors?

It wouldn't matter what festival eifle 65 played at, I would still go see them. Kings among men, they are.

the festival circuit is fine, as it the willingness of people to pay very high prices to good lineups at established festivals.
stereosonic sold out with 40,000 last weekend in melbourne . meredith music festival sold out this weekend in melbourne with 11,000 tickets. the sold out soundwave just added another 1,000 to take them to about 38,000 tickets . falls festival is sold out. etc. etc. etc.

this was going to be the best day, it was only 80bucks and an extra 5 to camp there!! people dont realise that every band on that bill would be good to see live AND not to mention how awsome the atmosphere would be with everyone zombied up!! just sucks that too many people these days only care about getting spray tanned and looking 'hot' and paying top dollar for shit festivities like stereo, parklife ect rather than enjoy what could of been an awsome day

From AJ Maddah - Really sad for New Beginnings Festival organisers. While not my cup of tea, they had a good/fun idea, worked hard with a great attitude. :(

it is waaaay.... too risky to host a festival anymore. too much competition as well as being very expensive.

i heard it was 45 000? at least according to SMH - http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/music/a-big-song-and-dance-20111124-1nvft.html

either way it's further proof that this whole "festivals are dying" thing is total bullshit. sydney itself has 7 major festivals. BDO (55 000), Soundwave (40 000, Parklife (35 000) Future (no one seems to know but at least 35 000) Homebake (20 000) Harvest (15 000) Stereosonic (45 000) plus a whole host of festivals with solid lineups like Laneway, Field Day and Playground Weekender. i'll be very surprised if there's another city in the world (aside from Austin) with as many major festivals as Sydney, with Melbourne sharing most of those.

really don't know where i'm going with this but festivals are not dying so STFU arggghhh

the line up was horrible... though I do like the idea of having the crowd dress up as zombies(even though i can imagine the make up would sweat off and stink)
