New Order lead Future MusicFestival second lineup

Future Music Festival have dropped a colossal second lineup this morning, confirming that New Order and Friendly Fires will be here in March to get the party started.

Also joining the likes of Die Antwoord, The Rapture, The Wombats and Aphex Twin for Future Music 2012 are beat makers Gym Class Heroes; Producer extraordinaire Mark Ronson, who will be facing off with UK music know-it-all Zane Lowe in a DJ set showdown; The side project of Pendulum members Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, Knife Party; UK rapper Professor Green ; Plus a stack of DJs including Kill The Noize, Flux Pavillion, Porter Robinson, Oliver Huntemann, Dubfire and trance superstar John O’Callahan.

Only last week New Order keyboardist Gillian Gilbert let slip that the new wave legends would be visiting Australia as part of their current reunion tour, which sees Gilbert join founding members Bernard Sumner (vocals) and Stephen Morris (drums) along with guitarist Phil Cunningham and Bad Lieutenant bassist Tom Chapman.

Friendly Fires were last on our shores for Splendour and few sold-out sideshows earlier this year, about which one our FL reviewers gushed: “Friendly Fires don’t do weaker songs; they do albums that sound like greatest hits collections, and they do shows that test their audience’s endurance, in a good way. How much more dancing can you endure? How many more epic choruses? How many more sweet, rump-shaking grooves?”

Tickets for Future Music Festival 2012 are on sale now through Ticketmaster.

After hearing from thatdude about the supposed really bad live performances from new order, friendly fires now make me the most excited for the second lineup. Yeah I know they tour here every 6 months but I loved them at splendour and their new album is very catchy.

Hoping for a sideshow or will end up going, there's enough on the lineup for me now to kinda justify going (despite the many warnings i've heard about the crowds :P)

Quotes from some Brazilian publications and critics on twitter, translated the best I can from Portuguese, on New Order's Ultra Music Festival Sao Paulo headline set:

"Anyone with even a passing consideration for good quality music would find that New Order performance a disgrace"

"If it wasn't for The Pretty Reckless and Ke$ha touring earlier this year, New Order would've won the worst show to tour Brazil this year"

"One of the worst live shows ever. Their legacy as patron saints of alternative music has been permanently ruined."

This makes me sad. But considering how bad Bad Lieutenant are live, I can see where they are coming from.

Fatboy Slim was just announced as the Sunday headliner of the main stage at the Breath of Life Festival (in Tas), so I guess he won't be clashing with New Order for those who care. I would've thought it'd be strange to have him too early at Future though. Skrillex was also previously announced as headlining the MOS arena on Sunday for BOL as well, so I guess they've got two for the price of one on the Melb-Laun plane!

Check this out, it's not on the metro website...or anywhere else...but the management for James Murphy and Pat Mahoney appear to have them down as doing a sideshow at the Metro Theatre on Friday 9th March. Sounds great!
