New Order to tour Australia

New Order keyboardist Gillian Gilbert has revealed in an interview that the recently reunited new wave pioneers will be headed to Australia very soon.

Speaking with a Brazilian paper in support of their forthcoming South American shows, Welch let slip the band is putting recording new material on hold to tour Down Under: “We will do more festivals, we are going to Australia. We’re not thinking about recording, we’re just enjoying it now.”

New Order reunited in September of this year, with Gilbert joining founding members Bernard Sumner (vocals) and Stephen Morris (drums) along with guitarist Phil Cunningham and Bad Lieutenant bassist Tom Chapman.

Due to continued animosity between original bassist/ fraudulent DJ Peter Hook and the rest of the band, Hooky is not a part of this reunion tour. However, if you are keen to see the man he will be Down Under in April with his own version of Joy Division.

Ten years for this lineup - Gillian Gilbert left in 2001 and only just rejoined.

Super keen for this, last saw New Order about 10 years ago and Hook was the least impressive. He sat down most of the gig playing bass on the speakers, destoying any energy the rest of the band had.
Gillian back in the band makes this all the more exciting.

Think I would rather see them on a revitalised V Fest than at FMF, but will probably attend any festival they play.
If they play FMF I'm hoping all the wasted twats will be off at some other stage watching some shit trance dj...

If they played FMF, I'd have to take the plunge and buy myself a ticket - theres a lot of hidden gems in that lineup.
A headline tour would probably sell pretty well too,

Great news. Very excited by this one. Saw them in a festival in Ireland in 2005. They were headlining the second stage, and at the back of the field was the dance tent. Just as the dance tent ended, they kicked into 'Blue Monday'. It was cool to watch thousands of people streaming out of the tent and running straight into the already bouncing crowd.

Well Gilbert is a founding member as well, is she not as important as Hook because she's female?
The last 2 albums without her on board have been pretty patchy, even Republic was better than the last couple.
It would be great if the whole 4 founding members were together, but Hook clearly has issues.

I was just going by the albums, not pre album singles.
Sure she wasn't a part of Joy Division, but to me she's a founding member of New Order.

But Hooky has become a bell-end. Really it's Original New Order Hook > Gillian > Current Hook.

I never actually said I would prefer one over the other, would prefer all 4 members to be involved.
I'm pretty sure she must have had some creative input in the band too, I always preferred the more electronic New Order than the guitar heavy stuff they were doing on the last couple of albums.
Judging by the recent clips on youtube from the Europe shows, the tour is going to be great!

New Order aren't an amazing live act. Bernard's Vocals just don't cut it live. The only reason I enjoyed New Order last time around was Hooky, he was a beast. I'm not trying to convince anyone not to attend but for me personally I don't think you are getting a New Order show.

Splendour seems too far away, they are touring now and who knows if they will even still be together by August... the band seems a bit volatile
