Rosie Beaton farewells triplej’s Super Request

For many triple j listeners Super Request’s Rosie Beaton has been a long time favourite, bringing her perky demeanour and wry humour to the air-waves for over a decade now. Sadly, 2011 will be Rosie’s last year on the js, as she heads off into the world to pursue other opportunities and play the music she wants to hear, for as long as she likes.

Commenting on her departure today Beaton said: “I think the success of Super Request is thanks to the amazing music lovers who requested songs over the years. I’ve always made the show about the listeners – their stories and requests – and I really enjoy the daily interaction and programming. I’ve had the best time hosting Super Request. I’m going to miss it, but it’s time for new opportunities.”

It is currently unknown whether Super Request will continue in it’s current format with a new presenter in 2012.

To celebrate/commiserate her departure triple j is throwing a ‘Super Request Super Farewell’ party next Friday 9th December from 6pm at The Manning Bar. Make sure you head along to tweet requests in person.

After a decade of taking your requests, triple j's Rosie Beaton will wind up Super Request and farewell triple j at the end of the year.

Since taking her first request back in 2001, Rosie has become a certified triple j legend and a close to friend to listeners right around Australia. There's no doubt that she's loved them as much as they've loved her.

"I think the success of Super Request is thanks to the amazing music lovers who requested songs over the years," says Rosie.

"I've always made the show about the listeners - their stories and requests - and I really enjoy the daily interaction and programming. I've had the best time hosting Super Request. I'm going to miss it, but it's time for new opportunities."

To celebrate Rosie's final show, triple j is throwing a Super Request Super Farewell next Friday 9th December from 6-10pm, live at the Manning Bar at Sydney Uni. Ah that sucks, I always love Rosie's show. Probably the best thing on Triple J. Hope the show sticks around in some form next year.

Triple J hasnt been the same in a long time. Back in the day though super request oh man! I always wanted to be the mixed bag person but was too shy to call!

they introduced me to a lot of great music and still continue to. maybe in a few years time i might stop listening to the station but i won't forget the impact they have had on me.

very cool will make an indepth posting about my experiences in the Slipdog going to Amsterdam thing. Bit of lag at the moment and can't sleep. holland all over was cool. Paris central people are complete wankas and once you are outside the centre they become nicer. I even learned french, a bit for them and they still didn't give a fuck. rude pricks

I was never a big fan of Rosie's style. I was thinking yesterday this might be a chance for JJJ to update the image of super request, instead of just a bunch of stoned or drunk or giggly teenagers calling up for their chance to go "Woooooooooooooooo!" on the radio. Get a new host, one who isnt concerned with pandering to every caller who shows up, doesn't want to be everyone's friend regardless of how silly they sound doing it.

but im not sure JJJ has any presenters like that at the moment.

Dave Callan would be good, I liked his Pirate Radio show and he has fun with callers.

He was my first thought, but if anything he's actually worse. He encourages the idiots to call, and then plays around with them when they do.

I basically want someone who's going to be good for a laugh, but not afraid to mock callers when they're morons.

rosie was a massive cunt. always annoying, never engaging.

tunny was great - the nine thirty three beats the mixed bag hands down. and that bert and ernie song he played was great.

surely a request show is pretty irrelevant these days now with the ease of access to so much music - most of the people who request do so because they want to foist their own musical tastes and opinions on other people. opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one and they're mostly full of shit. smacks of an inflated sense of self worth where they see the need to educate those they feel are less fortunate than them. would rather not have them clogging up the airwaves...

It’s the end of an era at GOLD104.3 with news that Grubby and Dee Dee – one of Australia’s longest running breakfast teams – will finish on air this year. Grubby & Dee Dee’s final breakfast show aired this morning.

"As we continue to develop our brands we are constantly reviewing our formats and our talent," said Duncan Campbell, ARN’s National Content Director in a statement this morning.

"Grubby & Dee Dee have been with GOLD104.3 for over 12 years and given the need to refresh the brand in preparation for a competitive 2012 we’ve agreed that this will be their final year with the station.

"Their 25 years together is a magnificent achievement." Grubby & Dee Dee For Breakfast is Melbourne’s longest-running breakfast show. Peter “Grubby” Stubbs and Diane “Dee Dee” Dunleavy started at Gold in April 1999.
