Florence and the Machine tour

Florence and the Machine will be returning to Australia in May for her very own headline tour.

Last year Australia simply couldn’t get enough of Florence with the fiery singer touring for Laneway festival and two sideshows early in the year and then booking in a return for Splendour with three sideshows, which quickly sold out and became seven sideshows (including four very impressive nights in Sydney).

This year Florence released her second album Ceremonials, but gave us just one Australian show with an intimate performance in Sydney that FL’s reviewer gushingly described as “a fantastic celebration of the intrinsic ability of music to traverse and toy with the full spectrum of human emotion.” Ceremonials also won a glowing review on FL that praised the album as “a showcase of compelling pop music dressed up to the nines, executed with heart, soul and glorious chest-beating flamboyance.”

Update:
Devonte Hynes has been added to the tour as the support act under his Blood Orange moniker. Check out the lead track of his recent Coastal Grooves, and upcoming single Forget It.

Tuesday 22nd May – Entertainment Centre, Adelaide
Thursday 24th May – Entertainment Centre, Sydney

Entertainment Centre? Well, as they say in Denmark, "fuck that."

so excited for this, but brisbane venue is entertainment centre, boondal... wish it was the riverstage (now i'm a bit disappointed)

The official presser says Riverstage so there's some hope... now we just need to find out if Flo's folk or the promoter made the typo.

Definitely going to head along to this :)

Can't say I'm surprised with Rod Laver Arena. Would have preferred multiple nights at the Palais though.

I love Florence, but the venue and that pricetag makes this hard to get excited about.

not at all surprised. it was going to be SEC or multiple horderns. i much prefer SEC to the barnyard.

I would have put her at the State Theatre, personally.

grattan

Playing that size/style of venue would have her spending a solid week playing shows in Sydney and another in Melbourne. Never gonna happen.

MorningAfterboy

MorningAfterboy said on the 27th Nov, 2011

That's true, but I reckon they'd be better shows.

grattan

Yeah of course. But the argument's about as valid as another round of "why doesn't x band come a few thousand extra kilometres to play for me and my three mates in Perth?!"

Nice work, Flo. I cant wait to see you in three years at a 3/4 sold out enmore when this whole trend dies off and you release a really good album like Franz Ferdinand before you.

Also Florence is already at least 5 times as huge as Franz Ferdinand at their peak. She'll be around for a while, after Ceremonials success it's going to take at least 2 shit albums (albums that everyone recognises as shit, as opposed to her existing albums which are shit) before fans start deserting her in masses. I can see her being relevant for another 5 years or so

dont know why people are trying to put an expiry date on florence, she hasn't put a foot wrong yet, stepping up to arenas was the only logical step for her. she's changed her style and if she continues to do so through her albums she won't go out of fashion i reckon. be thankful we have her, if not we'd had just have adele :p

And look what happened to them.

Completely different from Florence and Franz, in that the songs that made them famous, the Big Hooky Angsty Songs (BHAS), were their worst songs, even on a by-album basis.

When they finally produced an album with no BHAS, everyone lost interest, even though A Thousand Million Suns is a brilliant album.

any regular FLers seen this tour so far? i'm eagerly anticipating tomorrow's show at the SEC. i had a look at the ticketmaster website to see whether they have put up set times or not and i discovered that they're now allowing you to pick your own seats when you're buying tickets to a show. which also means you can see exactly how many seats have been left unsold to any given show.

Florence has about 260 side view seats left but otherwise it's completely sold out. Black Keys have a good 400-500 seats remaining.

really really excellent show. she has the most incredible stage presence. just the right mix of humility and confidence. when she wasn't running around like mad she was hitting most of the right notes and thankfully the sound mix did her voice justice. the crowd was surprisingly awesome. didn't end up watching half of it through someones iphones which was a welcome change. i don't think i had anyone around me under 20 and most importantly not dickheads or skanks. but it was disappointing that the only time people stood up was when she asked them too.

really envy everyone going to the SOH show tomorrow but i'm glad i got to see this version of Florence. i think what separates her from a lot of her counterparts is her ability to put on a true "rock" show.

highlight would be a tie between the 6yr old "stage invader" and the Dogs Day are Over jumping fest. all in all incredible night and i will be sure to score tickets to her next visit as well.
