Final additions for PyramidRock (and a cancellation)

With a huge local contingent and some very solid international guests, the annual Pyramid Rock Festival, held every New Year’s Eve/Day in Philip Island, was already shaping up to be a fantastic festival with its first two announcements. The third and final announcement, however, just adds more icing to the cake – even if it does, unfortunately, take a slice away.

Melbourne singer-songwriter (and recent star of the excellent Nick Cave tribute tour, Straight to You ) Bertie Blackman has sadly had to cancel her appearance at the festival, citing a lack of preparation for performing new material as the reason.

“I have been putting my soul into this new album furiously since the beginning of the year,” she says. “I want the first performance of this material to be startling, powerful and magical. Unfortunately, we are still in the depths of her [the album’s] heart and I feel it’s too early to reveal her thoughts, stories and howls.”

Despite this unfortunate (and somewhat bizarre) cancellation, the organisers have still added some great local acts to the bill, including reggae powerhouse Blue King Brown and Triple J Unearthed winners The Delta Riggs.
