System Of A Down will play two huge sideshows while in town for Soundwave Festival next February.

The last time the Toxicity rockers were on our shores they were tearing up stages at the Big Day Out, just before the release of their Mezmerize album.

System Of A Down Sidewaves:
Tuesday 28th February – Sydney Entertainment Centre, Sydney (All Ages)
Wednesday 29th February – Rod Laver, Melbourne (All Ages)

Tickets on sale Thursday 1st December, 9am

Dude, I'm fairly certain that Soundwave Touring don't book any gigs from bands playing SW in New Zealand.

So there will be no sideshows, per say. Bands may play their own show in NZ though if another promoter organises it.

AJs claim was that SOAD would play a show in NZ provided they can find a venue. If they found a venue I'm pretty sure itd get announced today.

Turns out Australia once again gets the band I want to see.

Just a heads-up, System played Big Day Out 2005. Mezmerize came out almost 4 months later and they never toured here for it.

System didnt tour here for Mezmerize, it came out months after they did BDO in 05.

Any word on ticket prices?

They were touring to promote the release of Mezmerise, they played a few songs from it.

Those were the days when you toured in advance of releasing the album so the tour promoted the album.

Now days you release a new album prior to touring to support your tour.

i never really thought that they were that big, more just that everyone really knew Chop Suey and that was it, not really the type of band to have dedicated fans, unlike Slipknot who I personally think should be the headliner :S

I definitely made the same mistake of underestimating SOAD's popularity. I would've picked Bizkit and Slipknot to headline over them. Do they even have any hits/well-known songs that didn't come from 'Toxicity'?

Am stunned by SOAD playing the Tennis Centre.

RATM and Faith No More, who would have to be much more popular in both alt and mainstream circles, were only booked for Festival Hall for their sideshows in recent years.

The only ones I can think of that most people would know are BYOB, Hypnotize and Lonely Day.
I still think they will sell this out, they're quite popular these days. Even my friends who don't usually like punk/metal, like System a lot. They have quite a large reach imo.

Travelling four hours to Brisbane then catching a plane, as well as accommodation, tickets and spending and doubling that because of my missus, (the exact reason why you don't get it Braveheart, as you don't have to pay double for your hand hey.) sorta makes it expensive. I'll be going with a lot of my mates to soundwave/sydney sideshow and I've found the larger group you're with, the less you notice if a band/the sound is playing badly because you'll all be singing along anyways. My personal experience anyways.

The Rise Against show last year at the Ent Centre is a good example. I Went with about 8 people and I didn't notice the sound was shitty even though everyone on the forums complained about it after. (waiting for someone to say "well rise against are always shitty and so is your taste hurrrrr")

I've seen Rise Against twice (The Tivoli in 2009 and BDO 2010) and I thought they were pretty great both times, especially when playing material off of Siren Song and Sufferer & Witness...

Rise Against always play a great set, now seen them about 5 shows i think, I just didn't seem to notice the bad sound that a lot of other people seemed to complain about. Then again everyone says the Sydney Entertainment Centre always has awful sound but I haven't noticed whenever I've gone.

I wish they would play some older stuff but as long as they keep touring that'll keep me happy.
