In brief tours: Dirty Three,Bonnie Prince Billy, WoodenShjips and Electrelane

Folk legend Will Oldham – better known to many as Bonnie Prince Billy – will be Down Under next March to create a whole lot of magic in the Supernatural Amphitheatre at Golden Plains. Oldham will also play a couple of little theatre shows while here, including one in Castlemaine Victoria – home of the super tasty Castlemaine Rock.

Friday 9th March – National Theatre, Melbourne
Saturday 10th March – Theatre Royal, Castlemaine,
Monday 5th March – Opera House, Sydney

When speaking to FL about a new Dirty Three record back in 2010 Warren Ellis revealed, “It’s become increasingly problematic over the years as people have established families and [are] doing other work. There’s just not the time to do things and find a moment when everybody is available but that’s fine too. We’re due a record and it feels like the right time which is good.” One year on and the band is finally preparing to release their first album since 2005’s Cinder , and fans will get a chance to hear some of it when the Dirty Three play the Opera House in March.

Back in 2010 San Fran psych-rockers Wooden Shjips were awarded The Boot at Golden Plains after melting minds with their glorious spacey drone. Next March the band will no doubt have punters raising their footwear once again when they return to our shores armed with new album West .

The recently reunited Electrelane will be Down Under next year for a run of small shows in March. The post rock pin-up girls of the early noughties went on an indefinite hiatus in 2007 and while there is no new material just yet the gigs are sure to be a trip down memory lane.
