Following on from the final round of J Award nominees for ‘Album Of The Year’, triple j have announced the shortlist for ‘Unearthed Artist Of The Year’. Leading the pack of local talent is FL Playlister Lanie Lane; who has been nominated alongside Perth young-uns San Cisco; Melbourne folk quartet Husky; Brisbane songstress and the soundtrack to every emotional scene in ABC series The Slap Emma Louise; And Brisbane popsters Ball Park Music.

San Cisco
From their sound, to their name, to their haircuts, the teens knew their market. Their crowds will continue to grow in this indie = orgasm town.

Lanie Lane
From a day job cutting flowers to cutting tracks with Jack White, the gorgeous Lanie Lane’s profile continues to go from strength to strength with her fantastic debut effort, To The Horses. Comparable to anyone from Billie Holiday, to the more modern Kitty, Daisy, and Lewis, her debut album has 50s chic written all over it.

Husky
Their combined male harmonies remind of America or Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young at times but the high point of their short set is when they divert into a mix of traditional blues and barbershop, with three members gathered around one microphone with just guitar and harmonica as backing.

Emma Louise
Her presence onstage evokes a sense of professionalism, she seems comfortable there, yet she has an air of humility that is endearing, as though success makes her blush… The hype is valid; with a multi layered voice and the ability to write songs- both deep and catchy-as-hell, this fair lass from up north is set for big things.

Ball Park Music
Hometown favourites Ball Park Music always make their mark when on stage, and their performance at the Tivoli set a new benchmark for the youthful six-piece. Their opening number was the well-versed iFly which always incites full volume audience participation of cheerful profanities, and lead a flawless, high-energy setlist full of quirky wistfulness.
