In brief: Dresden Dolls,Cornershop and Boris tours

We’ve had a whole lot of Amanda Palmer down under over the last five years, however, it has been over four years since her and Brian Viglione have brought the Brechtian punk of Dresden Dolls theatrics to our shores. Reviewing their last official release together as a band, No Virginia, our FL writer concluded: “The Dresden Dolls are just the kind of dark horse that the industry needs – they provide a glorious score to desperation and despair with lashings of poise and wit.”

Dresden Dolls:
Thursday 5th January – The Tivoli, Brisbane
Saturday 7th January – Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Sunday 8th January – Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Wednesday 11th January – The Gov, Adelaide
Thursday 12th January – Astor Theatre, Perth

Tickets on sale Monday 21st November.

Hotly rumored for Splendour In The Grass this year, 90s stars Cornershop will actually be touring Australia in early February. Best known for their huge cross-over hit Brimful Of Asha the ever-revolving lineup (currently lead by mainstays Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayres) have just released their new record, Cornershop and the Double-O Groove Of. A far cry from the indie tunes that made their name, Double-O is collaboration with Punjabi folk singer Bubbley Kaur that fuses Punjabi folk and dance-crazed hip- hop grooves.

Cornershop tour:
Thursday 16th February – Prince Bandroom, Melbourne
Friday 17th February – Brisbane, The Hifi
Saturday 18th February – The Metro, Sydney

Tickets on sale Friday 18th November.

Japanese mind-melters Boris will return to our shores in March to show off the ‘extreme pop’ of their new album, New Album. Last here for Vivid Live in 2010 the experimental three-piece “shook the Opera house to the core with their drone and decibels”.

Boris tour:
Thursday 22nd March – The Metro, Sydney
Friday 23rd March – The HiFi, Brisbane
Saturday24th March – The Corner Hotel, Melbourne
