Peter Hook must be broke
Fri 11th Nov, 2011 in Local News
New Order have reunited without Peter Hook and Hooky’s not happy – in fact he has vowed to “fuck over” the band “in any possible way”.
The first step in his plan seems to be his decision to continue playing Joy Division ‘tribute’ shows for gullible punters. The bassist and notorious fake DJs has just announced that he is returning to Australia in 2012 to desecrate the classic Joy Division album Closer with his band The Light at shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.
Joy Division only lasted three and a half years, which means that Hook has now nearly spent as much time reheating the band’s songs on tribute tours as he did playing with the actual band. Last year he toured playing songs from the Unknown Pleasures album playing sold out shows to indifferent reviews – FLs reviewer in Perth summed up the mess by reporting that “His back-up band’s performance was pub rock quality at best … To say it was like watching a Joy Division cover band is being generous, particularly when the original member of the band requires lyric prompting for every song.”
If you really feel the need to witness this for yourself you might want to ‘treat’ yourself to a Gold or Platinum package ticket. A Gold pass gives you VIP entry, a meet & greet with Peter Hook, a tour laminate, and a limited edition poster for a mere $249; while the ever so fancy Platinum package offers all that plus the chance to have 5 items signed and a exclusive tour t-shirt for a lazy $299. Bargins!
