Already confirmed on the Perth International Arts Festival, indie-rock elder statesmen Death Cab For Cutie have announced four additional sideshows as part of their trip down under next February.

Death Cab For Cutie sideshows:

Tuesday 21st February – Palace, Melbourne
Friday 24th February – Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Monday 27th February – Tivoli, Brisbane

not that I don't, but gee people really like plans, I can understand why it's a lot of people's favourite I guess, but I just find it odd for some reason.

Kelz5359

Kelz5359 said on the 26th Feb, 2012

i wouldn't say plans is necessarily my favourite... it just came out during a certain time in my life, and the songs have always resonated with me on that level. if i had to really break it down though it would probably be transatlanticism.

oldgregg

oldgregg said on the 26th Feb, 2012

regardless it's still a great album, but I just it find funny that all the screams from the crowd seemed to come during 'I'll follow you..'.

I've always been heavily fixed on transatlanticism and facts since i was young, although recently I've been hooked on the majority of narrow stairs, I love it's darkness.

i find that one of the greatest things about death cab... you can keep rediscovering them, if you know what i mean? an album or song that never struck you at first can pop up later and really surprise you.

I was pretty amazed at the number of people who clearly only knew the tracks from Plans on Friday. Surely if you like one album by a band, you would check out their back-catalogue or at least keep up with their new releases...

andy_chalmers_102

andy_chalmers_102 said on the 26th Feb, 2012

Yep they did that on Friday. I thought I had missed something, I'm glad to know that it was just the audience missing brain cells.

On one side of me I had a guy who was texting through every song except Into the Dark. On the other side I had a group of 5 girls who kept screaming for Sound of Settling (when it was finally played, they sang along to the first chorus and then lost interest and talked through the rest of the song).

I usually manage to ignore shitty audiences, but that crowd was ridiculously awful.

oldgregg

oldgregg said on the 26th Feb, 2012

well the girl who got her tits out at the second Melbourne night talked and crazy drugged dance the whole gig, until I will follow you into the dark, where she stood perfectly still and said nothing, then once finished, preceded to get her boobs out again.

was stoked that the sound of settling made it in btw, wasn't expecting it to be at all. that song has been my favourite song since I was like 15.

I was going to take a photo of all the people taking photos/recording the whole of into the dark on Friday, but I would have hated myself for getting my phone out. It was ridiculous though, WHY DO YOU WANT TO RECORD IT INSTEAD OF ACTUALLY WATCHING BEN SING? Those kids needed to get off my lawn..

Kelz5359

Kelz5359 said on the 26th Feb, 2012

And sometimes it's not even just the one song. I've been to gigs where I've had someone in front of me who has literally had their phone up the entire duration of the show. Takes all my willpower not to bitch slap that shit out of their hands.

Went to the gig at the Enmore on Friday night and the level of doucheness in the crowd was outstanding. Sometimes you just know beforehand that a gig will feature a lot of douche punters but this gig really took me by surprise. Annoying tween girls screaming, annoying adults screaming like tween girls, people non-stop talking through songs, people non-stop recording on their phones, people non-stop making out while grinding against my leg.

On a positive note, Death Cab were awesome. No Company Calls though :(

lineofbestfit

I wanted to murder several people, all ages crowds are the worst (or girls with fake id's at overage shows in wednesday's case) no wonder they dislike meeting fans these days, they'd either ask ben about zooey or i will follow you into the dark. Surprised no one shouted out anything about her. I did find the second dates to have a lot more tolerable people, who knows how tonight will go. Hopefully they do a total different setlist seeing how it's the last date.

Also I'm pretty sure I've seen MAB throw something at a girl who was filming once, might've been at bright eyes

And I didn't think the crowd was that bad Friday night but I remember a heap of people filming (which I don't mind as I look at the band not peoples phones) and talking during songs, but I can usually tune it out

went to matt corby last night at the OAF and ended up stuck behind a girl who recorded a good 30mins of the show on her iphone and at times had her SLR in her other hand taking photos. this was after matt went on a speel about how doesn't understand the logic behind using camera phones at gigs. but there was a hilarious moment during one of the acapella bits where a girl who had just finished recording part of the show on her phone accidentally then hit the playback button resulting in matt and the crowd getting a bit of an instant replay of the song.

of course that's 100% correct. there's no wrong way to like a band, however I find it... odd?... that someone would buy tickets to see an 7-8 album band who have been around over a decade on the basis of one album and not look at any of the others. it's great that that one album moves someone so much they buy tickets, but it's just strange not to check out other material, don't you agree? not talking about you though.

One example would be Kings of Leon. Would have been sooo many people going to their '09 shows having only listened to Only By The Night and were loud brick walls during any song not from that album.

I've gone to see plenty of bands purely because they have a good live reputation.

I guess the most recent example was going to see Fucked Up when I knew about one song. I went purely on their live rep and it was great.

Generally I'd say it is an advantage to know what is being played however I don't think it is a necessity.

But I've been to see bands where I know 2 songs and still thoroughly enjoyed them and gotten into more of their stuff through seeing them, I guess Im just ok seeing bands I'm not 100% into
but they're all valid points and I've been listening to stuff of 'chords' lately and it's a cool album so I think that using a concert to get into their music more is always good
