The Flaming Lips join 4ZZZ forworld first
Mon 7th Nov, 2011 in Local News
In a world first Brisbane’s community radio station 4ZZZ will play The Flaming Lips’ 1997 four-disc opus Zaireeka in its entirety, using 160 iphones conducted by the leader of the Fearless Freaks himself. That’s right, following The Lips performance at Harvest Festival on November 19th, Wayne Coyne will take to the 4ZZZ studios to help recreate the band’s mid nineties ‘Boombox Experiments.’
The live to air broadcast will see one hundred and sixty people with iphones split into four different groups, each with a different disc of the album on their phone. With Coyne (and a handful of other conductors) at the helm the phones will be played simultaneously – marking the first ever broadcast of the Zaireeka on air anywhere in the world.
The event comes after months of petitioning by 4ZZZ for The Flaming Lips to join the late night radio show Grave Architecture, and make their dream a reality.
If you want to join the Fearless Freaks for this once in a lifetime opportunity, the station is currently recruiting 160 volunteers on their Facebook page.
