Byron Bay Bluesfest 2012 firstlineup

Last year Bluesfest secured the likes of Bob Dylan, BB King, Grace Jones, george Clinton and Elvis Costello with FL’s reviewer concluding, “We can’t possibly imagine how you’ll top it next year.” Seemingly unfazed by these great expectations, the promoters are not only confident they will top 2011 but are promising “one of the finest artist announcements in the 23 year history.”

In the lead up to the big announcement for the Byron Bay Bluesfest 2012 lineup, the festival promised “some big superstars, some of which have never played Bluesfest before. Of course there will be the old time favourites (who just can’t seem to stay away from Bluesfest) coupled with some of our much cherished artists [the lineup] will include a number of superb headlining artists and it will only be the beginning of an exquisite journey ahead as a second magical announcement will be following just a couple of weeks after the first.”

The “big superstars” quota has been impressively filled by The Who’s Roger Daltrey and everyone’s favourite drinking buddies The Pogues, add both Justin Townes Earle and Steve Earle, plus the incredible My Morning Jacket and blues legend Buddy Guy and Bluesfest is well on the way to making good on its promise to deliver one of its finest lineups to date.

When speaking with FasterLouder earlier this year promoter Peter Noble spoke candidly about his passion for booking said ‘old favourites’, “…Mike Franti we kinda do it every two years and Ben Harper ends up an average of every three years. Jack Johnson’s about once every 4 of 5 years…and certainly Xavier Rudd.” So it’s no surprise to find John Butler Trio back on the bill.

I'm not sure if its all the goodies at Sydney Festival or last years Bluesfest lineup, but this feels a little underwhelming to me?

Not bad for first round. Some of last years big names weren't announced until the 2nd & 3rd announcements.

Have already got my pre early-bird 5 day camping ticket, instead of driving in each day like I did this year - woot! :D

doesn't have the pulling power that last year did for me , but the experience and the vibe of the festival was so incredible i would go back even if eskimoe joe was headlining , and judging by last year there is still at least 4 more announcements packed full of world class performers to come
