Perth Festival 2012 lineup

Following quickly on the heels of the Sydney festival launch comes the Perth festival lineup announcement for 2012. And the lineup is every bit as impressive.

We already knew that Bon Iver would be kicking off his Australian tour in the west – giving him the chance to play the opening track from his glorious new record in the city that inspired the tune – but Bon Iver is just one of the festival’s many highlights.

Punters in Perth will also be treated to performances from indie faves Death Cab For Cutie, prolific alt-country (anti)hero Ryan Adams, bluesman Seasick Steve, Indian folk/indie pop maestros Cornershop, Jurassic 5 DJ Cut Chemist, Le Tigre side project MEN, legendary film composer Ennio Morricone and a set from reggae legend Little Roy paying tribute to Nirvana’s Nevermind

Perth festival musical highlights:

Little Roy presents Battle for Seattle – Friday 10th February
The Medics – Monday 12th February
Seasick Steve – Wednesday 15th February
The Suitcase Royale – Thursday 16th February
Death Cab for Cutie – Friday 17th and Saturday 18th February
Cornershop – Sunday 19th February
Sound of Rum – Monday 20th February
Cut Chemist – Thursday 23rd February
Bonnie Prince Billy featuring The Cairo Gang – Friday 24th February
MEN – Saturday 25th February
Ryan Adams – Saturday 25th February
Neon Indian and Slow Club – Sunday 26th February
Ennio Morricone – Sunday 26th February
Eddie Palmieri – Wednesday 29th February
Staff Benda Bilili – Friday 2nd March
Bon Iver – Saturday 3rd March
Penguin Café – Saturday 3rd March

Check out the Perth Festival Website for the full program of music, theatre, visual art, film and talks and ticketing information for each of the shows.]

Would love Death Cab to play the Enmore in Sydney, but I'd say they'd almost definitely opt for the Hordern now.

Another festival that just shits all over Brisbane Festival! Why do I live in this one horse town.

Ennio Morricone - Will he stick around for the TBA section of Golden Plains?

Surely you would have noticed that big fuck off tent in the middle of King George square back in September? I think the biggest acts we had were Custard & Kimbra.

Stefan Beck

Stefan Beck said on the 2nd Nov, 2011

Incredibly confused by the fact that the Death Cab show only costs $40 but they think Ryan Adams can get away with charging over $90.

Only interested in seeing Bon Iver and Morricone but both are pretty pricey so I might have to miss them entirely.

tyler07

tyler07 said on the 2nd Nov, 2011

Haha, for some reason I had no idea that was the 'Brisbane Festival' per se. The acts are always so unimpressive compared to every other capital city's fest that I just assumed we didn't have one...

I don't think Brisbane will get Hi-Fi. Their last two shows in 2008 and 09 were at Tivoli and they sold out both shows. I'd suggest they'll stick with Tivoli.

So this years big one is Bon Iver and he's charging double that.

On a completely unrelated note, why are Fleet Foxes charging $94 for Opera House shows yet they're playing for $70 in Brisbane and they will get a support band? Opera House gigs don't get support bands do they? Same with Bon Iver, Beirut, etc.

Stefan Beck

lineofbestfit

lineofbestfit said on the 6th Nov, 2011

narrow stairs first tour was something like 65, second show was 70ish so i'd say either one of those prices. hell even Bands like Hungry hipsters of hungary charge 30 dollars a show these days.I don't get why bon iver is so hyped/popular never got into his tunes.

Quicky

Quicky said on the 7th Nov, 2011

Yep definitely a sufficient reason. I'm happy with the setting but come on for $94 can we at least have some half decent upcoming band.
