Sydney Festival Parramatta2012 program
Mon 31st Oct, 2011 in Local News
While we wait impatiently for the full Sydney Festival lineup to be announced this week, S-town’s western dwellers needn’t suffer any more with Sydney Festival Parramatta unveiling its extensive 2012 program this morning.
From January 13th – 22nd next year, Sydney Festival will present a special program of theatre, music and film in Parramatta. Stretching across ten days the event is the largest the Festival has organised since it began showing work in the city’s west eight years ago.
This year the shows will take place in Riverside Theatres and The Idolize Spiegeltent in Prince Alfred Park, along with dozens of free performances such as the Parra Opening Party on January 14th featuring Holly Throsby and DJ Norman Jay; A concert under the stars at the Old King’s School site on January 21st; The Parra Closing Party on January 21st with Dan Sultan and Kasey Chambers; As well as activities popping up all over the CBD.
Some of the events taking place in the Riverside Theatres include: Sydney photographer William Yang’s I Am A Camera, which combines spoken-word, projected images and music; La Putyka which explores Czech pub culture through glazed eyes and beer drenched breath; Nigerian-French artists Asa and Féfé; And Tubular Bells for Two, where two very ambitious musicians, take up more than 20 instruments to present Mike Oldfield’s Celtic-folk-rock opus Tubular Bells in a unique musical – and often acrobatic – performance.
The Idolize Spiegletent musical lineup:
Briefs (house show)
Clairy Browne and The Bangin’ Rackettes
Frank Yamma,
Fatoumata Diawara
AA Bondy
Ed Kuepper
