The godfather of psychedellia and songwriter of the legendary 13th Floor Elevators Mr Roky Erickson will play two sideshows while in town next March for Golden Plains and the Adelaide Festival.

One of this earth’s great souls, Erickson was at the forefront of the San Francisco music scene in the late 60s, pioneering a sound that combined psychedellia with blues rock, and would go on to influence everyone from REM to The Jesus And Mary Chain.

Erickson’s life hasn’t been without its dark spots, however, with Roky being institutionalised twice and undergoing years of electro shock therapy that would ultimately hamper his songwriting for over a decade. While the 90s and 2000s saw him collaborate with many artists, including Mogwai and Okkervil River, it was only last year that he released True Love Cast Out All Evil, his first album of new material in over 14 years.
