Flo Rida chucks a “hissyfit”, bails on Fat as Butter

Cheesy auto-tuned rapper Flo Rida failed to appear for his scheduled sets on the main stage at Newcastle’s Fat As Butter festival and at Mounties in Mt Prichard yesterday, with the promoters claiming that he had a “hissy fit” and wasn’t “in a suitable condition to perform”.

The Fat as Butter promoters announced on Facebook yesterday afternoon that “Due to unforeseen circumstances out of our control, FAB regretfully announces that Flo Rida is experiencing transport issues and will be unable to perform at FAB today.”

However two hours later those “transport issues” had been dismissed with “Brent at Fat As Butter” posting a follow-up comment to explain: “We’re as upset as you are. We paid Flo to appear months ago and since he’s been on his Australian tour, he’s been an absolute Tonk. He’s been in Sydney today, and he’s had a hissy fit. We did everything we absolutely could to get him here, but he wouldn’t come. We’re absolutely devastated he decided not to be a part of Fat As Butter.”

The management at Mounties have also released a statement directing fans to express their disappointment on the rapper’s Facebook page and claiming that “The club did everything in its power to meet the needs of Flo Rida and his management. From the demands for late specialty items in his dressing room, to offering to pay all transport expenses to get him and his entourage to the venue (after his own arrangements supposedly fell through)… many promises were made and broken by Flo Rida and his management last night. And every time we got our hopes up that he was in transit to the venue, we would find out that he had not in fact left his hotel room. The most difficult part was then turning him away from the Club when he finally arrived nearly 3 hours after he was due on stage. We did not believe he was in a suitable condition to perform.”

The statement from Mounties also reveals that the club and Fat As Butter pre paid Flo Rida’s performance fee in full.

In response Flo Rida has only posted a vague comment on Twitter – “Australian fans, I was looking forward to performing for you but due to unforeseen circumstances I wasn’t able to do so last night” – and a series of posts on Facebook pimping his typically woeful new single Good Feeling. If he decides to actually turn up to the shows he has been booked to play he’ll be on stage at Jupiers Casino in Townsville tonight.

Update:
According to a series of tweets from Melbourne based rapper Illy, who did perform at the festival, the people involved in putting on Fat As Butter told him the story behind the cancelled set. Illy tweeted: “the princess didn’t like his hotel in Syd so he didn’t play. How little respect for your fans can a dude have?! Motherfucker, youre playing Chelsea Heights hotel, not selling out the Garden. Be thankful your atrocious music got you a fkn return flight! Hopefully people into his music see this for what it is and decide this sorta no talent diva shit isn’t worth their hard earned.”

Update 2:
Official statement from the Fat as Butter organisers:

We are extremely disappointed that Flo Rida decided not to fulfill his commitment to appear at the Fat As Butter festival on Saturday, but we are more disappointed that he let his fans down. We worked overtime to secure his performance, in the months leading up to the festival as well as on the day of the festival itself. Fat As Butter was one of the first shows locked in for his Australian tour and was set to be the largest in terms of audience attendance.

What happened on Saturday was completely out of Fat As Butter’s control. We sympathise with and share in the frustrations of fans and festival patrons who were so disappointed by Flo Rida’s non-appearance. We were hanging on with great hope that he would perform, and went to great lengths to make contingency plans in the hope that he would show up late. However, the festival had to go on, so we delivered the news that Flo Rida would not be appearing as soon as we got word the he had definitely cancelled.

Fat As Butter had nothing to do with Flo Rida’s accommodation bookings in Sydney. We were only responsible for his transport to Newcastle, which we had arranged and had waiting for him, as agreed to. We fulfilled all of our obligations in regards to Flo Rida’s booking and appearance.

As much as we are saddened by the situation regarding Flo Rida, we were more thrilled by the awesome line up of performers who did take to the stage at this years’ Fat As Butter festival. All of the artists on the day, including international rap legends Naughty By Nature, Aussie rock giants, The Living End, indie powerhouse, The Jezabels, and the ever-amazing Empire Of The Sun, did an absolutely phenomenal job of blowing the crowds away.

We are glad to report that it was a largely hassle free day with the majority of festival goers on their best behaviour, even when we had to deliver the news about Flo Rida. With a fresher festival site and more room to play than ever before, the strong crowd enjoyed every minute of the festival. We want to thank all of the artists and punters for their support, and for making this one of the best Fat As Butter festivals yet!

In what is a festival fatigued market, Fat As Butter organisers were extremely happy with the numbers in attendance on Saturday. In a sign of continued support for the festival from punters, the event was close to selling out.

Fat As Butter will be back next year, with organisers having already begun negotiations with talent for the 2012 festival.

Update 3:
A member of Flo Rida’s entourage has been arrested on drugs charges following a raid on the rapper’s hotel rooms in Townsville

Flo Rida wasn’t the only no show at Fat As Butter, with indie-pop darling Owl Eyes also missing her scheduled appearance. She explained her absence in a post on her Facebook wall: “Sorry to everyone who came down yesterday to Fat As Butter to watch my set, we didn’t make it to the stage due to a disastrous morning at the airport and made it to the festival just in time for our set to be finished :( I hope I can make it up to you in the future ♥”

The only thing more "upsetting" then Flo Rida failing to perform is being forced to sit through a Flo Rida performance.

From the Newcastle Herald:

Festival promoter Brent Lean was furious after he received a phone call from Flo Rider’s touring manager from Sydney on Saturday just two hours before the star was due to perform on the main stage in Newcastle.

‘‘We basically got a call at 3pm saying Flo Rida had thrown a hissy fit, was not happy about his Sydney accommodation and had stormed off,’’ Lean said.

Fat as Butter festival organisers had previously paid Flo Rider to perform and despite some last-minute calls to his management were unable to convince the star to travel from Sydney to Newcastle.

‘‘He totally disrespected us, the event and more importantly his fans,’’ Lean said yesterday. ‘‘It was disgusting form by an international artist.’’

WHAT! THE! FUCK!

Australian Grand Prix are proud to announce that Florida-born rap superstar Flo Rida will be joining the legendary Grandmaster Flash and some of Australia’s biggest acts to perform at the Sidetracked Music Festival.

Currently sitting in pole position at the top of the ARIA charts with Wild Ones (a double platinum collaboration with Aussie artist Sia), Flo Rida has broken down barriers by uniting millions of fans of pop, hip-hop, and club music around the world, establishing himself as an international, genre-busting superstar in the process. Aside from Wild Ones, which has now been at the top of charts for four weeks, he has two other tracks in the ARIA charts right now – Good Feeling, which was a quadruple platinum, a Top 5 ARIA chart and airplay smash - and a guest spot on Taio Cruz’s summer smash Hangover, which has sold over 40 million singles worldwide.

There are few bigger names in music at the moment, and his appearance at Sidetracked offers a chance for local music fans to see Flo Rida up close and personal from the fast lane!

Having rocked thousands of race and partygoers on circuit over the last four years, Sidetracked is bringing another stellar line up of sizzling live acts and DJs to this year’s Grand Prix. Joining Flo Rida at this year’s trackside festival is the pioneer of rap, hip-hop, and a Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Grandmaster Flash. ‘Flash’ joins some of Australia’s biggest bands and DJ’s including Art vs Science, The Potbelleez, The Stafford Brothers, Grant Smillie, Ruby Rose and many more to be announced!

I heard Wild Ones in full for the first time yesterday at a Subway that was playing 2DayFM.

The chorus is seriously one of the best pop choruses I have heard in the past five years. The production, the melody...everything. It's just perfect. I wouldn't change a thing about it. It's such a damn shame that it's attached to such a sub-par song.

International rap superstar Flo Rida and his management have been ordered to pay more than $400,000 to the organisers of Newcastle's Fat As Butter festival over his notorious no-show at the event last October.

"The no-show by Flo Rida damaged the trading reputation of the plaintiff, impacting its ability to stage future events, attract patrons and compete with rivals in the music event industry," Judge Gibson said.

She ordered the rapper and VIP Entertainment and Concepts to pay $380,400 in damages and $37,745 in legal fees.
