2011 Independent Music Awardswinners

The 2011 Independent Music Awards winners have been presented at a celebration in Melbourne which featured performances from Calling All Cars, Emma Louise, Illy and Owl Eyes, The Holidays, and Adalita.

The Jezabels won two awards with Adalita, Wagons, Seekae, My Disco and Pnau also on the winners list. Rapper 360 won the punter voted ‘Most Hunted’ award, proving that his fans/street team works far harder than teams clicking the poll for the other nominees Bliss N Eso, Drapht, Illy, The Jezabels, Dream On Dreamer, Little Red, Art Vs Science, Pnau, and The Potbelleez.

The awards are for “any music which is 100% Australian owned, which automatically discounts anything on a major label” – for more info read FasterLouder’s interview with Nick O’Byrne, the General Manager of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association, which runs the awards.

She and Jake from Bluejuice hosted it a year or two ago, that would've been good. And why isn't Triple J the radio partner? Do Nova even know about the existence of independent music?

Not really.

If you look at the top 10 from recent years, all of those songs got absolutely smashed by Triple J.

I don't doubt that non Triple J listeners now contribute to the voting, but the voting very much reflects Triple J's playlist.
