both Brisbane shows sold out in less than a day.

The Tivoli is a tiny venue compared to the rest of the venues on the tour. but to sell 3000 tickets in a city the size of brisbane without basically no advertising and within 24hrs of announcing the shows, goes some way in showing the band's popularity.

yeah. i've been to the sidney myer music bowl before, but only in the seated area.

i found out about the bon iver tour late and am kicking myself. i really hate myself right now. but anyway, the only tickets left are lawn ones.

i bought them. but what is it like from the lawn there? any good? for an act like bon iver i'm not so sure.

and yes. i did make an account to ask this. i have lurked here before, but only made an account now.

thanks for any input in advance!

I saw rhcp from the lawn, it was shit.

longorange

longorange said on the 3rd Oct, 2011

personal opinion is that it's pretty terrible. the seated area is fantastic for live shows, but the lawn is just too far away.

the sound gets so distorted, the acts look like ants they are so far away. i would recommend getting there as early as possible and getting front row if you can.

deanoss

deanoss said on the 3rd Oct, 2011

The sound right at the front is the worst actually... ive found the sound and views from the front section of the lawn at least to be pretty good... obviously you don't want to be too far back, but ive found the best spot in the GA area, if you can get it, is the part where the "tarp" effecively gets to the ground on either side of the stage. If you can drop down to the side of stage area while security isnt looking, then you'll have the best spot in the house..

just go on to their website and hit login in the top left hand corner. then click register now. that should give you access tomorrow morning.

and wow. 3 shows in brisbane. still expecting tickets to his sydney shows to be fairly easy to come by but wouldn't be surprised to see at least the first show selling out quickly.

Braveheart81

I think row Q in the stalls is a great spot to sit in the SOH Concert Hall.

Good height and distance compared to the stage.

I've sat in that row before and I enjoyed it much more than sitting in the front 2 rows. It's much easier to take in a show like that when you are back 10-15 rows.

Awesome, will buy tickets then. Even though I've been to the opera house quite a few times I'm never quite sure how good the seats will be (despite them ended up still being great). Thanks for the tip!

Row W is the same row as the sound desk I think. I was in that row for Regina Spektor. I thought it was fine.

Up to you whether you wait for the general onsale, but I really think that anywhere in the front section of the stalls are good seats. I personally avoid the front 8 or 10 rows just because you are too low.

Stefan Beck

Stefan Beck said on the 5th Oct, 2011

When I was over for Vivid I was only one row back from the stage for Bat For Lashes and up in the circle for The Cure and both were excellent.

Though I guess The Cures more widescreen sound and the lightshow was better appreciated further back.

shazie

shazie said on the 5th Oct, 2011

Don't think so, but I got kinda burned when I bought A reserve for The Cure but it was directly one seat infront of B reserve (wasn't even on the lower circle with the other A reserve tickets =/ ). In the end it didn't matter because the cure were amazing but felt kinda jipped because of paying the higher price for what was essentially a B reserve ticket.

That's nuts, but doesn't really surprise. When he was here last time his shows in the Spiegeltent were going for around $600 on ebay, and scalping in the US is RIDICULOUS. I paid a little over face value for Paul McCartney and Britney Spears (EAD all of you) after hours of eBay/craiglist trawling when I was there, but there were loads of tickets going for $1000s, many over 4-5 times face value, especially in the close seats

For fans of huge saxophones:

On tour in Australia as part of the incredible BON IVER ensemble, avant-garde musician and saxophone maestro Colin Stetson takes time out from his Australian tour schedule to perform his critically acclaimed and ground breaking solo show for one night only in Melbourne at the Toff in Town. Expect nothing less than a sonic, conceptual, compositional and technical tour de force.

To say Colin Stetson has come into his own would be an understatement.February 2011 saw the release of Colin's highly acclaimed solo album New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges, broadly received as a sonic, conceptual, compositional and technical tour de force. Thanks to his trajectory as a session and guest player with a diverse crop of iconoclastic pop/rock practitioners *– Tom Waits, Laurie Anderson, TV On The Radio, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Antibalas and many more – as well as his own tenure in bands like Sway Machinery and Bell Orchestra, Stetson was poised to bridge the gap between contemporary rock and more rarified currents of avant jazz. With the Judges album, he did just that, garnering high praise from the both the jazz and pop/rock worlds.

you would have buckleys of sneaking in. if you know a group of people in seats you could arrange for one of them to bring out the rest of the seated groups tix or wristbands for your use.

personally i think the lawn has the better atmosphere but getting a decent spot with good sound and a clear view is a dogfight. the sound is just as good at the front centre of the lawn as it anywhere else but up the back its pretty poor, like any big venue.
