TH E SECOND BIG DAY OUT ANNOUNCEMENT HAS ALSO BEEN RELEASED

After eleven months of forum conjecture, insider predictions and leaks, all rumour has been put to rest with the official announcement of the Big Day Out 2012.

Australia’s longest running traveling festival turns twenty this January, a momentous occasion that has not been lost on its organisers Viv Lees and Ken West. Chatting with FasterLouder back in January about his fondest memories from the last twenty years, Lees spoke passionately of each and every mad minute, reminiscing in particular about that infamous BDO number one: “The vision was to unite the alternative scene by removing the musical boundaries. It didn’t hurt having Nirvana on your side. We were a small team, we worked our arses off. I worked all night building fences, around 2am I found two guys hiding in trees so I hired them to help build fences, ironic I know.”

Of course, especially with their first announcement being "weak" compared to the other festivals. I think their second announcement will fare much better than the others'. I'm just keen for it because a good second announcement will give me a reason to go to more than one (with some interstate friends)

2nd announcement will have people hovering with a mouse over the 'buy' icon, a few good mid sized bands and they will sell out in no time

All they need is 1 or 2 commercially viable bands and the tickets will be smashed. I think you're almost guaranteed at least a Sydney and Gold Coast sell-out off the 2nd announcement, and if those 2 cities sell-out then Melbourne will with a bit of extra time.
