Opeth tour

Kings of Swedish prog-metal Opeth will return to Australia this December to show off tunes from their epic new album Heritage.

Album number ten for Opeth, Heritage is the band’s first release since Watershed in 2008 and the last album featuring keyboardist Per Wiberg who officially left the band in April. Singer Mikael Akerfeldt has described the record as, “quite intense at times in some ‘old’ murky way, and quite beautiful and stark at times.”

Last on our shores in 2009, the band proved that after two decades together they still have what it takes: “The audience was left amazed, inspired and satisfied. This show demonstrated why Opeth are so strongly respected and admired, and why they continue to define metal to this day.”

Opeth tour dates:
Thursday 15th December – The Tivoli – Brisbane
Friday 16th December – The Enmore – Sydney
Sunday 18th December – The Palace – Melbourne
Tuesday 20th December – Fremantle Metro – Perth

a band that i've always heard my mates wanking about but never got into. i had a listen to some of their stuff and loved the melodies, but i fucking hate screamo music. i'm told they also have a very melodic album as well. would their live show suit a non-fan?

They aren't screamo!!

I reckon all there stuff is melodic even when they are at their heaviest.
That's the beauty of this great band, they can swing between super heavy and beautiful acoustic melodies with in the same track without it sounding forced.

If you mean different to Watershed as opposed to different to past Opeth in general, then that's probably a good thing. I didn't really like Watershed much.

i'm not getting your point. i'm not hiding the fact that i have never gone out of my way to listen to them. the only time i have, it was that of a great song with a really long and beautiful intro and then the singing started and it was clear it wasn't my kettle of fish.

my question about them live stems from obviously bands mostly being two different entities on cd compared to live. if their live show incorporated plenty of non-screaming and awesome sustained melodies then i would definitely enjoy it, which was basically my question.

People trying to get into bands or go see them live purely because they happen to be touring is stupid. That is my point.

If a band is touring and I haven't listened to them but have heard great things about them, I'll check out their albums and usually end up going to their concert. I hate getting into a band just after they tour =/

Of course that's not with every band that tours, but ones that I've always thought of listening to but never got the chance. The tour acts as a catalyst.

One example would be School of Seven Bells last year. Saw they were on the splendour lineup, listened to their stuff, loved them and had a great time at their sideshow in Sydney. Since then one of the members has left as well. That would've sucked more if I didn't get to see them before that happened.

this is a really stupid thing to say. touring a band is a great way to introduce people to their music. they attract as much publicity as possible to make sure people hear of them. people then check out their stuff in order to see whether they should buy a ticket or not - so that they don't miss out on something they might like.

when a band isn't touring, there's no urgency. people like our friend shazie here may just never get round to it.

anyway shazie, i think you will enjoy this concert, go listen to the new album and grab a ticket if you like it.

Had a quick listen to about the first 3-4 songs, Ronny was right it is definately a bit different. I like what I've heard so far though, I love that they keep progressing but still retain the essence of what is Opeth.
