Parklife 2011 set times

Parklife kicks off next weekend so it’s time to take a look at the set-times and start stressing about the time it will take you to run between the stages.

There are a fair share of inevitable clashes but with Lykke Li, Death From Above 1979, The Streets, Crystal Fighers, Kimbra, Sebastiem Tellier and Little Dragon the Atoll Stage looks to be the place to be. The Sahara main stage will host the likes of Duck Sauce, Gossip,.Mylo, Katy B, Santigold and Diplo.

The set-times come with a warning that they are a “rough guide only and set times may change” so don’t get too attached to your schedule for the day.

Set times for your city:

MELBOURNE
PERTH
BRISBANE
SYDNEY
ADELAIDE

Parklife 2011 dates:

Saturday 24th September – Melbourne (Sydney Myer Music Bowl and Kings Domain)
Sunday 25th September – Perth (Wellington Square)
Saturday 1st October – Brisbane (City Botanic Gardens)
Sunday 2nd October – Sydney (Kippax Lake, Centennial Park)
Monday 3rd October – Adelaide (Botanic Park)

Quick debrief for Brisbane.

Rocked up for SebastiAn. Was more like a dictatorship rally soundtracked by dark and dirty electro. The bloke can smoke too.

Next was DFA. Best of the day. Watching them really made me think where the fuck did JFK go so wrong.. Blood On Our Hands was the standout.

Hung around and watched Crystal Fighters. Enjoyed their set quite a bit, good party atmosphere and they seemed to love it too.

Watched the first half hour of Tellier. The man is simply awesome. So groovy and he is quite a character. If you Sydney people are umming and ahhing about seeing him I definitely recommend it.

Left Tellier to go to Digitalism. After Jose has always said they are shit/terrible live I was pleasantly surprised about how decent they were. The addition of a drummer added a fair bit to the show. Although, Reeperbahn is my favourite song off the new album and it was fucking atrocious live. But apart from that I thought the performance was pretty good.

After that I headed I over to catch the last half hour of The Streets. Although Fit But You Know it is the only Streets song I know I thought the performance was great. Mike Skinner is a cheeky bastard. Some chick also got her tits out too which was also a bonus.

Finished the night off the with Simian and absolutely loved it. Thought they were fantastic supporting the Prodigy in 09 but I think they were even better this time around. Sleep Deprivation is one of the best Electronic intro songs ever. Beth Ditto appearance was also a highlight. Only gripe was that fuckhead Nero playing over 15 mins so Simian's set got cut short. Dubstep fuckwit.

That was a really great day.

Bon Chat Bon Rat started off really well, and Nantes weren't too bad either. Kimbra was fabulous as always - sadly didn't have her two backing vocalists from the Metro gig, but was still a great set.

Little Dragon were the huge surprise for me - never heard a note of their music but I had so much fun watching them. Definitely going to invest in getting their albums.

DFA - what can you say? The best band of the day and one of the best live sets I've seen all year. Completely fucking wild. Had so much fun.

Crystal Fighters were fucking terrible - like Gogol Bodello withot the balls, like a more annoying Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Left their set early to get a good spot for Santigold. Holy hell did Mylo get old and fat. What a boring set.

Thankfully, Santigold turned around that hour of bullshit with one of the highlights of the day. Awesome sound, great live band - no You'll Find A Way, but was good to hear some new stuff at least.

Diplo looked like it was fun - most of you know my stance on DJs, but I appreciate when DJs try and have a bit more fun than just standing around and pretending to look busy like Mylo was. Headed back and watched a little bit of Sebastien Tellier - was pretty boring, to be honest, but I guess I can see the appeal.

Never thought I'd say this, but a big thanks to davey for recommending going back and forth between the Streets and the Gossip. Actually made for a really fun way to end the day - going from Don't Mug Yourself over to Standing In the Way of Control, back to Blinded by the Lights etc. Both put on really great sets, really enjoyed it. Funniest part was when I walked back during Soldiers and I thought "wow, the guy singing actually sounds like Rob Harvey, good replacement" - and then I realised it fucking WAS Rob Harvey! Bald as a badger so I didn't recognise him at all.

tl;dr - Good day, DFA79 > your favourite band

For an outdoor festival in a residential area I thought the sound was pretty good- a 100 times better than the main stage at Future.

I got their late so missed most of the first few acts. Saw a bit of the end of Little Dragon which was alright.

DFA were of course amazing. Everyone lost their shit, literally- the guy next to me spread out a big circle so he could look for his phone and everyone jumped in and turned it into a circle pit.

Mylo was better than he was on triple j last week but he was still pretty average, glad I went back to Crystal Fighters who I thought were wonderful. It was a nice to have that really different style of music at a dance festival.

I think I saw Santigold after that and she was also really really awesome. I wasn't sure whether to check out Tellier/Digitalism/Diplo after that but laziness had me at Diplo who was sooooo good. Perfect energetic festival set. Hopefully the other 2 will be back soon.

The Streets was really good too, it's sad it's his last show but oh well at least I got to see him once. I didn't like that he was a Manly fan but I guess no one's perfect.

I saw the end of Nero and it sounded like Bloody Beetroots gone dubstep. Which is a shame because their essential mix is really good.

Simian Mobile Disco started off really really good and then got kinda boring... then were good again for a bit and then boring... felt really stop start to me, Beth Ditto coming on added nothing, she just stood around in the shadows and it sounded exactly the same as the recording except for a couple of extra "woah-ohs". Eh anyway after that wandered past Magnetic Man and just as quickly wandered away. Checked out Lykke Li playing Kanye West's All of the Lights which was weird I suppose out of context... would have liked to stay to the end of her set but none of the group I was with thought she was any good so walked over to see the end of Duck Sauce to see them playing a 15 minute extended version of Barbra Streisand. The giant duck was pretty cool but Armand Van Helden > Duck Sauce. They should have played in the afternoon.

Anyway, to summarise:

1. DFA1979
2. Santigold
3. Crystal Fighters
4. The Streets/Diplo
