The Black Keys, A PerfectCircle ruled out for Big DayOut 2012

The Black Keys won’t be back on the Big Day Out lineup to make up for their late cancellation earlier this year. Instead of visiting Australia, the duo will be trekking through Europe with dates in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland and the UK during January and early February.

Casting more doubts on the validity of the claims made by the anonymous Big Day Out Spy, A Perfect Circle can also be ruled out of contention for the BDO lineup. The spy claimed yesterday that the band would be headlining the Green stage at the festival, but this has been quickly denied by the band’s official Facebook page, which has confirmed “That’s unfortunately not true”.

The spy has claimed that the bands getting ‘leaked’ come from a list that been circulated by Big Day Out at the start of this month and had cautioned fans that “Big Day Out has been known to make last minute changes though. But I’ll try and let you know if anything happens, if I can find out. And no, I am not backpedaling, just I know so many of you are excited, and this is obviously not 100% officially confirmed until BDO says.”

Following the official denial from the A Perfect Circle camp, the spy has taken the unusual measure of issuing a long statement to claim that the band has pulled out of the festival for the second time. (A Perfect Circle had been a part of the lineup officially announced by the festival in 2004.)

However the spy’s prediction that Odd Future will be playing at Big Day Out seems to be a solid tip as a dig back through the thousands of tweets from Wolf Gang member Hodgy Beats reveals that on the 31st of July he made the comment “I was about to go to the zoo today. Ill wait til australia in january I guess.”

Other rumours for the Big Day Out include Pearl Jam, Kasabian, My Chemical Romance, Foster the People, The Shins, Cage The Elephant and Prince.
