Triple J announce Nick Cavetribute concerts

Following on from their spectacular tribute concert to Paul Kelly in 2009, triple j has announced that as part of the Ausmusic Month celebrations this November they will honour the legendary Nick Cave with a series of shows around Australia.

Unlike their past Ausmusic concerts the Straight To You tribute will makes its way along the entire east coast of the country, including stops in Geelong, Ballarat and Newcastle.

The shows will see some of this country’s finest tackling songs from Cave’s entire career. The musos tasked with re-imagining the tunes of Birthday Party, Boys Next Door, The Bad Seeds and Grinderman are: Abbe May, Adalita, Alex Burnett (Sparkadia), Ben Corbett (SixFtHick), Bertie Blackman, Dan Sultan, Jake Stone (Bluejuice), Johnny Mackay (Children Collide), Kram (Spiderbait), Lanie Lane, Lisa Mitchell, Muscles, Tim Rogers (You Am I) and Urthboy (The Herd).

Given that St Nick will be on our shores in early December with his Grinderman, it also leaves open the possibility that the man himself may rear his head at one of the shows. And with Grinderman appearances locked in for Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney already, Brisbane could well be the likely contender.

Nick Cave ‘Straight To You’ tribute shows:

Wednesday 9th November – Performing Arts Centre, Geelong
Thursday 10th November – Her Majestys, Ballarat
Friday 11th November – Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Saturday 12th November – Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Wednesday 16th November – Royal Theatre, Canberra
Thursday 17th November – Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Saturday 19th November – Panthers, Newcastle
Sunday 20th November – The Tivoli, Brisbane

Tickets on sale Friday 2nd September at 9am

Why Brisbane were horrible. We drove away Tyler, The Creator after all

Adelaide is fuckin sik cunts. wherever you live sucks more than Radelaide you bunch of latte drinking wankas with your bridges and your federation squares and your big bananas. Go fuck yourselves sitting in traffic jams and complaining about what band to see on the weekend. We get to see bands during the week you pussies and only 10 people go to the gig so we get up the front. All the shit bands miss Radelaide anyway. Nick Cave pfft only go thing about him was that song he did with Kylie.

Don't think about coming here for our uncrowded festivals either or we will stab you cunts.

Triple j is presenting Straight to You: triple j's Tribute to Nick Cave - a concert tour paying tribute to one of Australia's most loved and respected songwriters in November. ABC TV and triple j will record the Sydney show, to air on ABC2 next year, with a CD and DVD to follow.

i'm not gonna bag out adelaide but i will say the nick cave is a legend.

"call upon the author to explain"

Lanie Lane told triple j a few weeks back that she's "gonna do Jack The Ripper"

"I'm so excited it's going to be so hot. I've just got such a vision with the arrangement and I can hear it in my head. I can't wait to do the rehearsals.

"And I think I'm doing 'Where The Wild Roses Grow' with Alex from Sparkadia which will be good, it's nice to sing with him."

- Urthboy will do 'Stagger Lee' off Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' Murder Ballads record.

- Muscles is going to team up with Bertie Blackman for 'Do You Love Me?' from 1994's Let Love In.

- Lisa Mitchell, Dan Sultan and Kram are all set to team up on a song together too.

So which gig is Tim Rogers at??? If they are filming Sydney does it mean he is doing that show???

I am not joking, this is the final touch that would have me buying my ticket.
