Playground Weekender moves toMarch in 2012

With spring about to arrive, it won’t be long before we’re sweating it out across another long, hazy Sydney summer. One festival that feels the heat is the Wiseman’s Ferry getaway Playground Weekender, as anyone who’s donned a full-body Spiderman suit for fancy dress day will know too well.

Well, in 2012 the festival is moving to the potentially cooler climes of early Autumn. Thursday 1st to Sunday 4th March are the dates for the diary. “We decided to change the dates to March as it is a wee bit cooler but still hot instead of potentially roasting like the previous few years,” writes Weekender HQ. the shift in dates also means that Playground will be held on the weekend before the Golden Plains festival, which always runs on the Victorian Labour Day long weekend, so there’s a better chance that could share part of their lineups.

As for the announcement of the Playground Weekender lineup, we’re told to expect it in the “VERY near future”. Time to get your guessing hats on.

This could be a wise move, the last three years at playground have been outrageously hot.

Not the best news.. Means it is now on the same weekend as Brisbane Future. I know Future is a shit of a festival but the LOY tent is amazeballs.

Never been bothered by the heat when houseboating. Mind you the closeness to GP is not a bad thing. PGW being close to soundwave was useless, there was never any band crossover there, for numerous reasons most of you would realise. GP is more fitting even if still a different market again, it does open the doors to more pulling power, even though GP isn't known for massive headliners,

lineup is released on the 4th November.. A bit of speculation about who could be on the lineup cant hurt, right?

arcade fire, death cab for cutie, the weeknd, bombay bicycle club, smith westerns, underworld, the strokes, surfer blood

^ those are just some bands that have released new material recently and/or are due for a visit to australia. what are the odds of these acts playing pgw? who do you think will be on the bill? etc etc.

EDIT: just looked through the previous lineups for pgw and realised that some of the bands i listed ie Arcade Fire and The Strokes are probably a little too big to be playing this festival. but the rest are probably good sized acts that would fit onto the bill quite well.

The fact the headliner is usually english means strokes, arcade fire and dcfc are cancelled out there :p .....BRING ON UNDERWORLD

Would love New Order (but maybe too big for PGW?), The Knife or Morcheeba (but seems they've just gone on hiatus again...)

Hey Weekenders, we've changed the festival dates to three days this year (Friday March 2nd to Sunday 4th) so that everyone can enjoy the full Weekender experience, many of you were leaving before the headline acts on Sunday last year, so make sure you book Monday off work before all your colleagues do!!

The site will be open on Friday morning at 9am and we'll be laying on extra ferries on Friday and Monday Morning.

Roll on 2012, this one's going to be a cracker!!

Yer Thursday was a set up your shit then kick back and hang out and get to know your neighbours kinda shindig. Suss out the venue and what food was available. Then on Friday wake up ready to get your game on. Mind you, I am not the kind of person that can get smashed 4 nights in a row so 3 nights isn't bad, and it makes it a tiny bit cheaper I would think. Not that its an expensive festival!! but still, with boat.. its about 1k all up.

Seventies disco legends Chic featuring founding member Nile Rodgers will be taking the stage to ‘le freak’ you out. This is giving us dress up ideas for the annual fancy dress day already!

The much beloved festival is a must on any music fans festival calendar and is set in the unique surrounds of Del Rio Resort, Wisemans Ferry, with the added value of a pool AND a river for those sweaty dancing days, plus multiple stages and some of the best festival accomodation with cabins, camping, houseboats, tipis and caravans all right on the festival grounds. Like, you can even dance and be part of the festival from your cabin balcony. Now that is the sort of festi accom we endorse fully.
